Awww, man. I am super disappointed in this! It was just really flat, and a bit stilted in places. I really do love this author and had high hopes for this based on her other books and my love of A. Ham., but this was just really meh.

I don't normally enjoy YA anymore but this book didn't feel too young for me! It still hits my emotions and the historical aspects were very well done.

I was so excited to dive into this book. I picked it up on a whim, as I've never seen the musical Hamilton (and I'll admit I was dying to find out more) although I have listened to the cast recording often enough that I could sing every part (if that was physically possible!).
I flew through this book finding it both interesting and enlightening. We never hear the perspective of women during the American War of Independence and I thought it was very interesting to find out more about this.
Melissa de la Cruz's book has now compelled me to find out more about the life of Eliza Schuyler and I thoroughly enjoyed her thrilling retelling of this iconic relationship.

About 40 pages from the end of this young adult novel which imagines the courtship and eventual marriage of Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler, I finally had an idea which helped me stomach the remainder of this romance which was clearly more on the fiction than historical side of the genre. Instead of being touted as historical fiction, it should be advertised as Fan Fiction. I worry that young fans of Hamilton, the musical which inspired the author to write this book and which was also fictionalized, will think that this book related as much history as the musical does. Which it does not and which I found really frustrating. There’s such a willing audience if you do adults hungry for more facts about the love of those in Hamilton’s world. Why feed them something called historical fiction which is actually romance/adventure?
