Osman goes all-in on Elizabeth and Joyce in this book, and it's mostly all-in on Elizabeth frankly. But Elizabeth worked best in the first book as a cipher, and I don't know that fleshing out her history in this book makes her a better character. Honestly, it might have made her more boring. Give me more old retiree mystery drama, please, with less spycraft.

Not to mention the fatphobia with Chris the police officer continues in this one.

Well, I still think Osman's writing style is... unusual and I'm still not a fan. If you thought the last book was crazy, it wasn't. Characters were okay,
I don't particularly appreciate it when there are too many couples
illegal stuff was not (I cannot stress enough how much I hate that this is normalized) and he could have gone easier on the innuendo but pretty much a meh book.

Enjoyed this one even more than the first, perhaps because I listened to this one? Nothing complicated, but I like it. I think I got some of the sarcasm/humor more reading it this way.
