This was a sweet, well-written story that, while it takes place during the troubles in Northern Ireland, pretty much completely ignores all that for life in the countryside. I can easily see this as a British TV series, if there weren't already so many Irish small town and small town doctor series already. Not really Doc Hollywood (other than a small town boy becoming a doctor and ending up back in a small town), because the lead doesn't have the distain for small towns. Pretty much a new doctor finding his way in a quirky (aren't they all?) village under the tutelage of the crusty old veteran doctor. Quite pleasant.

This book was a sweet and simple read full of warmth and culture. It reminded me a lot of the Irish TV series, Ballykissangel. However, this story was about a new doctor who comes to a small town in Ireland. It tells of the trials and tribulations of a young man trying to make a living in a new place with new people. It shows his growth as a person and how he changes the lives of his new friends and how they change his.

The author comes across like a mixture of Jan Karon & James Herriot; a pleasing story with likable, quirky characters.

Super cute book! If you enjoy James Herriott's books about being a vet, you'll like this one.

Good summer read I guess. The comparisons to Mitford made by other reviewers are apt but I found it more like Herriot with people instead of animals as the patients. A quick, light read that will entertain but not surprise.

This was an easy read, light-hearted and fun. Probably my favourite part was when it became apparent that although his methods were somewhat unorthodox, O'Reilly was a great doctor. I would like to read more in the series.

Oh my goodness, did I enjoy this book! I wasn't expecting the humor and the laugh out loud moments.

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a good story about the many different types of people who make up a rural small town. It's a good light-hearted read and I can't wait to continue in the series.

I listened to the audiobook and John Keating was phenomenal! I think I would have missed a lot of the color in the book by just reading it. Definitely worth a read or listen if you need something to read.

And on a funny note, my ten year old son LOVED to listen to this audiobook, even if he had no idea what was going on, plot-wise, because he loved Keating's voice so much. Of course, the remainder of the day, he spoke in an Irish accent. Gotta love it.
