I love this series. it is similar to James Herriott's "All Creatures" series.

This was a gentle amusing book during a time when I wanted something light to read. Full of local color. A little clumsy at times. Still enjoyable. A bit like the James Herriot stories but fiction, people not animals, and not as well-written (and set in rural Ireland ratter than rural Yorkshire).

An adorable book full of colorful characters and entertaining antics, An Irish Country Doctor is the perfect read for anyone interested in rural Irish life. Barry was a bit of an eejit when it came to his relationship with Patricia and, while I understand the book is set in a different time, I should have liked more of the characters to recognize the sexism permeating their village and to help Kinky with the food once in a while. Overall, though, this was a delightful read. I first read it on a trip to Ireland, but even on my second read (at home in America) it was just as enjoyable.

What a sweet missive of a newly minted doctor who joins an established practice in a small Irish town. In a similar tone to James Herriot, young Dr. Laverty discovers humanity, heart, and humor in his on call days with the gruff exterior but teddy bear inside of his new boss.

Fantastic book. I love the camaraderie and respect that grows between the two doctors. I can't wait to start the next book.
