Daniel Clowes is great. This isn't really one of his better ones. Nice shape though. I like the wide-angle format!

Daniel Clowes is great with writing loneliness, and this story is no different! It's also short, so it's sort of a bite sized good read.

Daniel Clowes is known primarily for Ghost World. I like Ghost World, it's a good book, but I find it hard to connect with the characters and I find them kind-of unlikeable. This, though... I did connect with. The story of a man who is at a crossroads in his life, trying to find companionship yet down on himself, lacking confidence and struggling to know what to say. He is set up on a blind-date by a couple of friends and we follow him on his journey, internally and externally. I really liked this. Clowes has a real way of delving in to the flaws and discomfort of dating, generaltional gaps and life. My favourite of his books thus far.

Another Clowes book, another 3 star review. This one was a tiny bit more sympathetic to its characters, but they really are pathetic losers, stumbling blindly through this terrible, terrible world!

He’s really good at writing cynical characters, they’re really unlikable and I wonder if it’s just a reflection of myself

In this book Clowes turns his observant eye to middle-aged, post-divorce dating. As you might expect, there is a lot of awkwardness, nervousness, and very very dry dark humor in this territory. The mix between the action of the evening and the main character's interior monologue is nicely balanced and, as always, the drawings and layout serve the story perfectly. A very nice read.
