Erin Hunter has an amazing tween following. Clans of warring cats is not a plot that would normally prompt me to read a book. The cats are heroic, take revenge, lie, get unfairly accused, are loyal, live and die. It was tough for me to get through this book, but I can understand the adventure and almost fantasy appeal.

Even if I don't read all the books in a series, I try to read the first one so that I know how appropriate the book is for my kids. While I have heard a lot about the Warriors series I had never read one. This book is excellent for the mid to late elementary set. The plot is straight forward. The characters are well drawn and embody those virtues and traits children most need to see play out.

god i loved revisiting this series, it’s so good (even though it’s disturbing that all the stuff going down happens to cats, but i choose to ignore that as much as possible)
i’d basically forgotten the entire plot of this series apart from the end with scourge killing tigerstar, so it was like reading it again for the first time. i forgot about who bluestar appoints deputy after redtails death and was so eager to find out who it was funny
i forgot how much of an ICON firepaw is cause damn this kid took shit from no one
and i forgot about the god damn DIVA yellowfang (love her love her love her) and her little story (along with spottedleaf dying in the first book lol)
ravenpaw :(
poor little ravenpaw :( my heart breaks every time i read his god damn story and i wish he could’ve come back or something in the second series because he’s the sweetest cat ever and one of my favourites
i also forgot everyone who supported tigerclaw (longtail especially) and i kinda forgot all the drama that went down as tigerclaw laid out his plans
also i noticed something that i feel like doesn’t happen in the later books. despite the female cats being called she-cats they were called queens like 90% of the time even though i thought queens were prego cats/mothers??? i’m confused
anyways it was super nostalgic rereading these and now i have to reread the rest

I binged this entire series back in 2008 so I thought I'd give it a big old nostalgic read. Boy I have no idea how I trudged through it all those years ago. I'm not even a cat person to being with, added in with the writing style I'm impressed with my younger self for making it all the way through.

Overall I did a lot of skimming this go around, I forgot how hard it is to get into the book. With all the names sounding incredibly similar -paw -claw -star -etc it was super hard to tell anyone apart. It also felt like so many details were lacking. It was always "AND ANOTHER 6 MOONS PASSED". Cool glad nothing happened in that time that was note worthy.

Honestly probably won't go through the rest of the books and will let it live in nostalgic bliss for the remainder of time.

Bumping the rating to 4 Stars just for nostalgia's sake. It definitely is fast-paced and has some "muahaha" villain moments, but still as much fun to explore the world with Firepaw now as it was in Middle School.

This isn’t my usual genre of book, but it’s a tale of cat clans, so how can you go wrong?
