Creepy and sad look into the cult of Scientology. Repetitive, but sometimes eye opening.

It was a little slow, but still a fascinating look into a very strange world. I definitely felt for her and all that she lost out on as a child.

What a horrific ordeal these people have to go through. At times was a tedious read but that's because it's basically all world-building.

So intriguing/disturbing! I had no idea how insanely controlling Scientology is. Reading about the abuse towards children was particularly harrowing. The writing was just so-so, and even though I agreed with the author and sympathized with her position, she seemed to be incredibly naive and whiny. Otherwise, a fascinating read. I just watched the HBO special on Scientology, and I highly recommend it. It was a great follow up to this read. Aside: Tom Cruise is cray.

A very interesting book, amazing to hear the first hand story of the niece of the current leader of Scientology, I knew Scientology had some cult like policies and practices but understanding what members who want to be in there core group the sea org have to go through, is out of control. So manipulative brainwashing/desensitizing/militaristic basically taking children and making them into Scientologist crusaders cutting them off completely from the outside world, cutting them off from parents giving them no free time spend all there time in school or doing hard labor for little to know pay. I don’t understand how celebrity proponents of Scientology who can hear these stories and can see how many families and lives have been ruined by Scientology can continue to promote it, as they aren’t being cut off from the outside world, they have the ability to see and know the truth. Very frustrating.

This was an exceptionally written memoir. I am fascinated by cults and found an interview of Jenna on YouTube talking about her life which lead me to pick up this book. It was horrifying, peculiar and fascinating. It is really strange to think that this is not a  science/dystopian but an actual real-life story of a person. I am so glad that Jenna got out and so disgusted with all the people in command as well as with the celebrities who have access to the internet and still contribute for this cause.

Definitely better to read after you have a thorough grounding in Scientology and some of the top names so that you can recognize who she is talking about throughout.
