A very enjoyable read encompassing historical fiction and romance, with strong female characters.

This book left me cold. I could not care for either of the protagonists.
The reason could be that the story jumps between two completely unconnected storyline. Granted, one is the great grandmother of the other, but the great grandmother‘s story has no connection to Maias life at all. It does not show the reason why she is adopted - that gets shoved into a few pages at the very end, almost as an afterthought. It does not influence Maias life after she learns about it. It does not teach her anything, because there are no parallels at all. In fact, the juxtaposition is completely pointless
Having said that, learning about the construction of the Christo statue was quite interesting.

It took me until the end to connect with the main character, so I'm afraid it's no more than a three. I may change my mind if I continue with the rest of the series. The settings were interesting and it was a page-turner, but it was mostly to find out how it would end. I started reading this as an e-book, but the physical format was better, as I had to go back a few times.

Slow cliché, caricatural. J’aimais la prémisse, je n’ai pas aimé l’execution
