The Devil's Vice started off by grabbing my attention and keeping it there for about a quarter of the way in, but then I started questioning way too many things that I couldn't look past or even let my mind say "this is fiction...stay in the land of disbelief"...so while I did finish the book I had a hard time loving it or even connecting with wanting to love it.

I love a good possessive-obsessive romance, and what I think I enjoy about it is the push back that the other character brings to that possession. Obviously I want them to eventually give in and admit that they love being the center of attention, but up until that point I want my heart to race over how psycho they think that person is...right? Somehow in this book I felt all of that was lost. This is of course all of my own personal opinion. Lilith and Kain didn't bring that chemistry like I was hoping and hopefully it's a me problem and someone else will love them.

So while this review is rounded up to 4 stars, it's more like 3.5, since I did enjoy certain elements and it did keep my attention for good chunks of the book, but honestly, it was just somewhat disappointing in the overall grand scheme.

The Devil's Vice is so much different than Mindy's other books. It's so much darker. With that said, I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings before reading as some of them are described in great detail.

Lillith is tormented by nightmares of her parent's murder and her own near death.  She's  a young resident training in the ER when she unknowingly saves one of the deadliest members of the Hellsfyre Motorcycle Club. There's something about him that strangely brings her comfort and recognition.  Kain instantly develops an obsession with Lillith and begins stalking her.  He becomes this deadly guardian angel with a twist where he permanently ends every possible danger to Lillith if you know what I mean.

Kain starts leaving her with little notes in her house, but it's more welcomed than not. Lillith knows she should run or be afraid, but she's not. Kain's obsession evolves and he kidnaps her. Their relationship evolves from there leading to chapter 37. Holy moly. Spicy!

Kain's story is so sad and heartbreaking. It definitely helps you understand this character even though he's a murder. He does a lot of terrible, evil things for a good cause.

I did enjoy this side of Mindy Paige as it was so different and darker than her normal books. It was well written and made you feel really drawn in with the character's fears, anxiety, and excitement.

Thank you Mindy and The Author Legacy for giving me this ARC!

If you are a dark stalker romance reader, you will enjoy this book.

Kain ends up shot and taken to the hospital where Lilith works…this is where his obsession begins. Little does Lilith know there is more going on underneath her nose at the hospital than she realizes.

Kain ends up taking her to protect her where she ultimately falls for him and his life.

I loved Kain and Lilith. There were mysterious aspects of Kain that still have yet to be uncovered. I hope they are delved more into in the next story even if it is about another characters love story. I loved Lilith not giving up her head strong ways but still showing her submissive side to Kain.

I want more from them and their world!

ARC Review

Wooooo this was a dark romance. We got a masked MMC, who is also a stalker, and lots of trigger warnings so please check before reading!

Tropes:
Masked stalker
Age Gap
Forced proximity
Trauma bonding

This book was so freaking addicting! Both of these characters were so intriguing and Mindy did an incredible job weaving in little snippets of their pasts that left me needing more!

Kain was a wild ride! He makes it known that he is not a good man and boy, does he prove it. But his obsession with Lillith and how he took care of her, showed a side only she had the privilege of seeing. Lillith was so sweet and innocent... until Kain came barreling through her life. He definitely brought out a darker side of her and I really enjoyed reading about her exploring the world outside of her comfort zone. Especially when it came to the bedroom scenes!!

Mindy did an amazing job writing this story. The plot was well written, the spice was perfect, and the twists throughout kept me turning the page. I will definitely be reading more from Mindy! Thank you so much Mindy and The Author Agency for the arc opportunity!
