Split Second by David Baldacci

It’s been a while since I read a thriller and this definitely provided an exciting ride. As we already know, in life, a split second decision can change everything. We follow the story of two secret service agents, King and Maxwell, who have found themselves trying to bounce back from devastating career hits where they both lost presidential candidates (killed and kidnapped respectively) eight years apart, resulting from split second decisions they made. The pair connects and realizes that there is more in common with the two events than they may have realized and proceed to try to get to the bottom of it. There were quite a few characters to keep track of but Baldacci did a good job of showing how the character fits into the rest of the story so they were easier to remember. The book started off at a great pace with lots of action, but the ending left me a little bit disappointed as it felt a bit too forced and unrealistic. Still an exciting and fast paced read

This first book in the series featured the main characters of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell. Sean is ex-Secret Service and Michelle is about to be. They come together to find out why their cases are connected. This story has drama, action, and chemistry. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to solve the mystery. I really like David Baldacci's writing. His characters are fun to read about and relatable.

This book had an interesting premise but we were a third of the way I to the book before the story really got going.
The main characters were too perfect, so it was hard to believe that they were ever going to be in any serious danger.

I think it was somewhat strange since I had read all the other books in this series, although this one did provide a lot of background and explanation to many of the details. The story itself was interesting; the usual, killing and find the killer (with a secret service twist) but nothing too surprising. overall a good read.

I've tried Baldacci before and didn't get in to it. I was determined to see this through and did. And while I liked King and Maxwell and even the basic premise the book didn't do anything for me. It felt overly long and poorly plotted. I known I'm in the minority, but his writing just doesn't click with me.

Not bad. Definitely had some surprises at the end. The dialogue was pretty bad

I just don't think these kind of books are for me anymore. So farfetched and unrealistic, I just couldn't get on board with any of it. Time to remove this genre from my to read list.
