Lyudmila Pavlichenko's life is fascinating and I enjoy how Quinn parallels the stories of Mila's early life and war experiences with the 1942 goodwill tour of the US. It's all very exciting, emotional, romantic, and stirring. I especially enjoyed reading of Mila's friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt, who is just as warm, smart, and funny as I had always imagined.

My only complaint (spoiler alert)

is that it was too easy to find out that the temperature in Washington, DC on the night October 31, 1942 was a comfortable 60 degrees - certainly too warm for a Russian to need a fur coat! However, it was fun to suspend my disbelief as Mila hunts the marksman who has hunted her from the moment she lands in the US.
