The story potential and the characters really carry this series for me. The writing is lacking, but I like to hold out that the author is still finding their voice and quality will improve over time. I've done this before with other series and it's paid out for me.

The books need another set of eyes and an editor. It's just small things, but there's enough of them. The writing just isn't polished. The main character has a "derringer" pistol, but the term makes no sense since this world is not our own. I really don't need to read the words "shampoo and conditioner" ever again.

But I like the set up of the story. I love the two kingdoms and how vastly different they are. I love the characters, and their growth as the book goes on. The discussion on mental health is very welcomed. Also, the two love interests actually talk, which is so refreshing. And that cliff hanger? I immediately need the next book. The author definitely found their strength in the last quarter of the book.

If you can be patient while the author hopefully strengthens her writing voice, I do recommend picking this series up.

I have been sucked in, I finished the first two books of this series in 2 days and am starting on the third!

I am really enjoying Tara Grayce's writing style and love the relationship building between Essie and Farrendel. The end of this book had me so tense! I guessed one of the traitors but the other was a total surprise. I can't wait to start devouring the next book. I hope Essie gets the names of the healers who help people with trauma because they are all going to need them.

Slow

I want to say that I don't regret the read but it was a tough one. It was a very slow start.

Ahhhhh the cliffhanger 😱🙈😬

The story continues right at where the first book left off, no time passed at all. I loved seeing Essie and Ferrendel's relationship grow and Ferrendel being introduced more to the human world

Content: PTSD, magic

Christian faith rating: 0/3 clean secular fiction, although the couple is married they don't do anything more than kiss

I love how wholesome and sweet this series is. In the first book, the main character got on my nerves a bit, she’s super chatty and asks a million questions. As the story progresses though, she’s definitely growing on me .
