As the youth say, I am dead. But in this case it’s because I’ve cried straight for the 48 hours I was reading this book.
Rachel’s Holiday is one of the most important books of my life, and I was so, so, so so scared when she said she was writing a sequel. But in Marian Keyes I trust, and so clearly I had to read it.
I am very, exceptionally glad I did so.

I'd give this a 4.5 stars if I could. This book really took me by surprise in such a pleasing way.
And I don't go in for chick-lit, honestly. But this book and the audiobook version read by Marian Keyes, bowled me over. The emotional depth! The wisdom! The comedy! And yes, the sex bits, which only means I can't recommend it in professional settings without explaining a lot so they don't think I'm sharing my pervy erotica collection with them and have no boundaries.
But if I was offered a cuppa with Marian Keyes, I wouldn't hesitate. She seems like a mensch and I may, just *may*, read more chick-lit if it's by her.
The half a star off was for how parts of the narrative which had been consistant throughout fell away toward the end when it wasn't as needed by the storyline. Which just felt unrealistic. Still gotta go to work, babes.
(Which is sorta a spoiler, so I thought I'd tick the box to be on the safe side.)

Here we are, 22 years after I first read “Rachel’s holiday”, which I’ve re-read until my copy fell apart and I bought the kindle version to always have with me.
Meeting Rachel again was like meeting up with an old friend. When both of you have been through some tough times, nobody needs to pretend or play the “my life is better than yours” game, it’s just honest and real.
Of course, what I really wanted to know was: Has Rachel managed to stay clean all these years? And is she still happy with Luke? What has the rest of the Walsh family been up to?
You’ll have to find out for yourselves. Make sure to bring the tissues, but always know that with Marian, you’re in the safest of storyteller hands.

I'm not a big fan of romanticising a memory of someone to the point that reality is often forgotten. also wasn't a fan with the decisions made for the sake of 'healing', because it could have been done in a way that wouldn't have unnecessarily hurt anyone.
the book made good show of trying to make it seem like she wasn't choosing one guy over the other but in the end, she did

I loved this sequel to Rachel’s holiday that I also loved. Such warm and realistic writing in addiction and relationships, loss and love.
