I just want to say that all these 1 and 2 star reviews are from Big Sean fans or Rachel lovers (I joke). Now, on to my VERY BIAS review. I say bias because I currently have a huge crush on Naya (thanks Step Up)
I read her bio in 2 days. Front to back. Everything. Every little thing. That’s rare because I hate sappy intros, dedications and whatever. Honestly, I would have read it one day if I stayed up a bit and read when I got home from work. Also, yes you read that correctly.... I read this while at work. This book came out in 2016 so I’m a little late to the game. Regardless, it was a good read.
Now, Naya didn’t flat out say this but I felt that her parents (mostly her dad) was toxic and boy so I relate to those with toxic parents. Her father seems very unlikeable, charging your 18 year old kid rent? No bueno. Also her mother did some guilt tripping to get her to audition for shows. I relate on the guilt tripping. Also, I related to her being biracial and always being checked off as “other”. I related to that 150%. Being too Hispanic for the black clique at school and too black for the Hispanic clique. Honey, I felt it to my core.
At the end of this book I was left with 4 things. Naya is cool as heck, I should really finish Glee (on season 1 episode 6... I know I’m late), Big Sean is a d-bag, and Lea Michele isn’t as nice as she seems. When this book came out everyone gave Naya a hard time, they were doubting what she was saying about Lea was true, and now 4 years later it turned out to be nothing but the truth (google Lea Michele tweets).
I would really like a part 2 because this book came out when she was married and now she’s divorced.
This would have got 5 stars from me EASY if the structure was different. A lot of the timelines jump around and I wasn’t a fan of that. I also wish she would have gone a bit more in depth about her home life because I feel like she left some things out.
Naya rocks.

The beginning is a little slow, but it's about back story. She surprised me in her level a maturity talking about Glee and her co-stars. She really could've gone in, but she didn't. Overall it was an entertaining, interesting listen.

I always admired Naya so much, as a person and as an actress. The book was lovely and I was happy to learn more things about her. It is true I was missing a bit more Glee stuff, but at the same time I get it - it is a book about her life, not about Glee, so it is absolutely understandable why there was only one chapter about it.
Her writing was smart and witty, I really enjoyed her storytelling and was so glad I got the chance to glimpse into her life.
I read this story while she was missing and presumed dead after swimming in Lake Piru. This made it even stronger read, especially chapters and sentences about her future plans and how she is going to grow old with Ryan and watch Josey become a man. Obviously I already knew she and Ryan got divorced two years ago, but it was still hard to read and I cried several times. I finished the book on the evening they found her body in the water...
Heartbroken.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this memoir as first of all, Naya is only around 30, so I wasn't sure how much she'd have to write about. The memoir is short, only about ten chapters, but it moves along very quickly. My opinion of Naya didn't really change too much from reading it. She isn't shy at laying it all out there with a lot of her stories and I learned that my suspicions about the Glee cast were mostly true. I would've liked more about her time on Glee to be honest. I did find her somewhat contradicting as she wrote about how she doesn't want to slam Lea Michele (as they had a rumoured feud during Glee) but goes on to mention how Lea didn't like that Naya had a bigger role, that she wouldn't talk to her for the entirety of the last season and talks about filming a scene where someone stormed off and wouldn't come back to set...although I guess in that story she only heavily alludes to it being Lea....it's a little sad to hear her talk so happily about her husband as they are now in the middle of a divorce, despite the book only coming out last year...I'm sure that will be detailed in a later book!
