This was one of my favorite books as a child. My dad used to read this to me almost every night. I hold on to it with the dearest memories.
And Robert Munch as the author, and Sheila McGraw as the illustrator, you can't go wrong. A favorite author that filled my childhood with laughter and coziness.

Here's my sappy story behind this book: My dad started a tradition of picking me up and singing this song to me every night when I was a kid. I tear up when I get to the end of the story.

I read it cos I saw an Instagram reel of a dad crying while reading it to his daughter 🤷🏽♀️
I didn't know how polarising it was going to be though lol. Lots of people thought it was loving and tender, lots of other people thought it was incredibly creepy and disturbing.
I agree with another review that said the book was trying to portray the parental feeling of always wanting to hold your child no matter their age, but if taken too literally it shifts the tone to a weirder, creepy vibe. I got both sides of the coin, but in the end, I just thought it also didn't have to be that serious or deep like people are taking it.

This book is very sweet. Some people may view it as a bit creepy that the mother rocks her teenage and adult son, but I think it's sweet. The story is a bit repetitive though.

There is something very creepy about this book. I think the intention was good, but showing a picture of a car with a ladder strapped to the roof so a mother can break into her adult child's house was way too much.
