Interesting town

The murder of the town doctor is the first murder for Sheriff Kenni to investigate. Fortunately, it requires her to call assistance in the form of Finn. The town dynamics of how they interact is pretty funny. It was easy to figure out the murderer, but that didn't detract from how Kenni gets there in the end. Not sure of the dead grandfather's role in this series. Looking forward to reading more.

A southern cozy mystery with a small town sheriff as the heroine, Kenni has her hands full with solving her first murder. Little does she know that help is going to come in the form of a handsome law man and from the ghost of her Poppa!
This was a good story with great characters and a believable mystery with a shocking twist. Well done!

I listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed the narrator. I enjoyed this light read and plan to read the next in the series.

This was a good beginning to a new series. I enjoyed the characters, although part of me wonders if Kenni is capable of being sheriff if not for her grandfather's help. I figured out who the real murderer was about halfway through, but not the why. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Red herrings my ASS. I predicted the killer from page 2.

Things I liked:
-small town vibe
-town gossip helping solve the case
-attempt at an unexpected culprit but clues being put throughout
-strong female heroine
-some descriptions were very atmospheric and the vibes were nice
-reminded me of Hart of Dixie/Virgin River/Stars Hollow

Things I didn’t like:
-plainly obvious murderer
-unnecessary details in a lot of the writing (how much detail do we really need about who’s letting Duke in and out and feeding him???) and some generally clunky phrases
-maybe some racist stuff?? Not sure
-descriptions of bodies, particularly bigger ones, for seemingly no reason
-ghostly grandpa? No thanks. Just have him be alive.

Fixin' To Die was a lot of fun to read! I loved learning about this small town and the interesting people living there. The mystery had me intrigued and trying to figure out who the culprit was through the whole book. I laughed out loud quite a bit while reading it, which made it even more enjoyable. Consider me hooked for the rest of the series!

Here's a series to avoid. Sheriff in a small Southern town has to solve a murder. Basic setup for mystery/romance is ok and the writing is smooth and nicely paced. That's why it's not one star. However, the plot and characters are why it's not good. All of the characters are out of a can reading "Southern stereotypes" and the parents are truly annoying. I want a mystery, not a childish fantasy which is a core component of the story. Yes, ghosts.
