Fixin' to Die by Tonya Kappes
3.0
Red herrings my ASS. I predicted the killer from page 2.
Things I liked:
-small town vibe
-town gossip helping solve the case
-attempt at an unexpected culprit but clues being put throughout
-strong female heroine
-some descriptions were very atmospheric and the vibes were nice
-reminded me of Hart of Dixie/Virgin River/Stars Hollow
Things I didn’t like:
-plainly obvious murderer
-unnecessary details in a lot of the writing (how much detail do we really need about who’s letting Duke in and out and feeding him???) and some generally clunky phrases
-maybe some racist stuff?? Not sure
-descriptions of bodies, particularly bigger ones, for seemingly no reason
-ghostly grandpa? No thanks. Just have him be alive.
