I was glad I read this Alexandre Dumas' classic. I only finished by sheer force of teenage will, but I finished it. It's neat to think that at the time these were written they were like soap operas. It's a classic I would recommend!

I really loved this book. I had originally wanted to read it because it was a classic and one I often heard referenced. I wasn't really sure of what the book was about and had it in mind it was going to be a "guys book" but it's just a very good book. The book I read is the barnes and noble format which has shortened the book and rearranged some parts to make it easier for the reader to follow. This was all explained with endnotes and I feel done quite well, even though a part of me would like to read the original format to see if anything was lost in translation.

All you need to know is this: it starts out as a love story that is torn apart by the jealousy of others. The shattered heart of the one leads him on a path of vengeance to take the happiness away from those who took his happily ever after from him.

I think this might have been my favorite classic yet. The plot was entertaining and I found the writing really beautiful.

Such a long and verbose book, but it kept me engaged and was a great story.

4.5 ★ - (loved it, favorite)

RTC - I didn't realize until into the first chapter that it says "abridged edition" in faint print on the cover but I still found this a really amazing book regardless. I'm excited to read the full version!

(only reason this isn't 5 stars is because of the violence lol)

I was halfway through the book when I realized it was the abridged edition. I felt robbed. Maybe one day, I'll read the entire the story.

OK. I've read the entire unabridged version. It took me a year, damnation! Bad translation but even with that, the story came through beautifully. I can't believe I tried to read the truncated version..I would have lost so much in reading that one.

One of my favorite books with a fantastic ending.

This was a book that I never planned to read, but due to a friend's consistent praises, I decided to give it a try. I was enthralled from start to finish. This single book could honestly been a whole series of interesting stories, yet it's packed all into one single read. The combination of Dumas and Maquet, his ghostwriter who is an awesome researcher, makes this a tale that's hard to put down.
