This is really a 4.5 rounded up. This book was amazing and gripping from the beginning. It was a little confusing because Edmond was pretending to be so many people, but I asked my mom all my questions, and the ones she didn't answer were answered later in the story. I docked a half-star because the last 10-15% of the book had a melancholy tone to it, once the revenge REALLY started in earnest, and especially after what happened with Valentine. Overall I really like this book, and I think I would probably read it again, just not for a while.

This is probably my favorite classic novel, if not absolute favorite, of all time. I read it as a challenge and fell in love with it. All I can think is that I must reread it next year to relive the story, and mark my favorite passages. Worth! The! Time!

This is not a book you can start and put down to come back to later. There’s just too many characters to keep straight for that. Like GOT haha Overall an incredible book! Very well written and as many twists and turns and reveals as any decent spy novel, but waaaaay better.

I was really reluctant to read this at first but I have to say it is undoubtedly one of the best books I have ever read. Something new happens on every page and it is always exciting and very shocking! Not only that, but the beautiful character transformations and themes in this novel are just truly stunning!!

I enjoyed it a lot. It’s very complex and there are a lot of people to follow.

This is a story of revenge: harsh, brutally executed, brilliantly delivered, revenge. There is also a good bit about reinventing yourself through education, overcoming incredible odds, remorse and finally redemption; but really it’s all about revenge. There are also pirates, a love story, and a secret to unravel. If the size of this tome is intimidating I’ll let you in on a secret- the abridged version might be even better than the unabridged in this case, all the important action with all the extra stuff cut out. I like to think of it as the “better edited” version. - Alexis S.

Dense...so sometimes difficult to keep track...but the story is a classic for many good reasons and is well worth reading!

This book is superb. I remember not having much of an opinion going into it, but I was soon drawn into the story, and I've come to fiercely love it. I'm ashamed to say that I've only read it once. This book definitely deserves multiple readings.
