Had to read this after hearing the Whoa!mance podcast episode. Tessa Dare is just the best.

This started out really well, with an interesting female protagonist - a young woman interested in geology in 1814 - and an interesting male protagonist - a viscount mentally scarred by the accident that took his parents when he was a child - but it did not keep me interested until the end. Once they left for Scotland, it began to drag. The slow pace was not helped by sections devoted to the couple that will apparently be the focus of the next book in the Spinster Cove series. I also thought that Minerva changed in ways that didn't make sense given her character. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read the previous book, I don't know. It wasn't bad but it didn't live up to its initial potential.

Tessa Dare for me is now synonymous with an enjoyable read. I like her characters, the way they banter and interact with one another, her plots that are not excessively complicated, but still somewhat structured and hold the romance together.
A definite well done from me!

fake elopement? sharing one bed? frienemies to lovers?
so many tropes that shouldn’t work together, but do in a non corny way

This was an absolutely delicious read. I was kicking my feet giggling
I’m not usually one for historical romances but this was a great, light read! No wonder it’s highly recommended.
I LIVE for a smart, tenacious female main character. UGH!!!!
I loved Colin and Minerva’s chemistry. So much back and forth with the banter, the flirtation, the teasing. The slow burn and growing attraction/affection was also exceptionally done.
The setting of a road trip and the wacky ass problems they came across the way was so fun to read and I loved how Colin stories became progressively more ridiculous as time went on.
