Well I loved this book, I had a hard time connecting with it as I wasn't of the Prince era and I'm not a mother! On that note, I thought the writing was great and the story was great and made it easy to follow along and want to read more! :)

Well, I wanted something cute and fluffy in the middle of a big serious nonfiction read. This was cute and fluffy and funny, but there are a few editing issues and, in the end, I wasn't terribly satisfied with the ending. Also, not nearly enough Prince content lol.

None of This Would Have Happened If Prince Were Alive: A Novel by Carolyn Prusa is a book that I had to read. That title alone guaranteed it, no matter what the story. The story is about a tumultuous 48 hours in the main character’s life where she finds out about her husband’s infidelity, evacuates for a hurricane, deals with an inconsiderate boss, and revaluation of her entire life.
I really enjoyed this one. I read it in one sitting. I liked the main character Ramona. From the moment she was introduced, she was likable and identifiable. Dealing with an unreasonable boss, finding out her husband is cheating on her, trying to evacuate her home, and basically reevaluating her entire life. The hits literally just keep on coming for Ramona.
One thing that is pretty clear from the beginning, is that Ramona is a huge Prince fan, which I actually just love. If you don’t know who Prince is, I feel sorry for you. If you have never had the joy of watching Prince perform, you really missed out. If you never had the opportunity to just watch that man exist, I pity you. Prince was an unparalleled, unrivaled, unmatched talent the likes of who we will probably never see again. Ramona equates everything in her life to before Prince died and after Prince died.
“Prince has been gone six months, and the world already feels less sparkly, specifically my world. He is never again going to don a shoulder-padded blazer with a billowing scarf and remind us that we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”
Ramona, at her core, is every woman. Every wife and mother that is doing a lot, sacrificing parts of her personality, her wants and dreams, and her passions just to be able to get through the day. Only to be rewarded with her husband stepping out on her because he needs sex and she is too tired at the end of the day after doing everything for everyone but herself to simply fall on her back in bed. I admired Ramona’s reaction and her handling of the situation because I would have been doing my best Angela Bassett impression from Waiting to Exhale. Honestly, Ramona’s journey is a joy to watch and by the end of None of This Would Have Happened If Prince Were Alive, you really enjoy not only Ramona but her journey.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this - I'm not a Prince fan (I'm not against him, but I'm the wrong generation and I couldn't name any of his songs) - but the title intrigued me and I like to try out books that are outside of my preferred genres every now and then.
Well, I did like it. I liked the setting - the recent past with Trump and Clinton battling for the U.S.A. (one has to laugh ironically at the U - the states may be united under one government, but there's no unity in the country); the coastal city about to be besieged by a hurricane (living in a country that has just suffered a cyclone and weather bombs, I could totally relate to that); the emotional state of Ramona (I don't think I'm anything like her, but I could understand what she was going through and how it had all got to that point).
PS. In the process of writing this review - thinking what I liked and why - I've upped my stars from 3 to 4 because the author wrote a character that I could empathise with, and a plot that moved vigorously.

I enjoyed this one. A nice blend of highly relatable mommy angst and humor. The narration on the audio book was also excellent.

A pretty good take on what happens when young moms think they have to do it. All and culture supports it. A light read with some amusing parts. touches on, but doesn’t deep dive on, many relevant issues.

I'm not a big Prince fan, but I loved this book! The main character in the book, Ramona, has always been a Prince fan. His music is a reminder of when she was unmarried, childless, sexy and creative, and when she is in line at the post office and hears the news he passed away, she feels all the magic has gone out of the world and her life has just become a calamitous, monotonous existence. Her boss is a young bratty guy who doesn't seem to understand motherhood comes first.. Her three year old daughter refuses to potty train properly. Her mom won't evacuate and the fact that she has just come home to decide whether to evacuate from a Cat 4 hurricane, only to find her husband having sex with a woman whose child goes to school with her son, is the last straw. Which is worse, the impending breakup of her marriage or this hurricane, called Matthew?
Ramona has to keep things together for her children, but there's so much other stuff going on. She learns things from other people she would rather not know..
This is the debut novel of an exciting new author. I look forward to reading the next book she puts out. The book is funny. The line about teenage boys' eating habits had me laughing out loud, because I certainly can identify with it.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions expressed are mine, and freely given.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and was really excited to read it. I rounded up to 4 stars. I’d give it 3.5. It was a fun read - I chuckled out loud a few times. There was something missing that I couldn’t quite identify. I think ultimately it was problems with the protagonist. But overall I enjoyed the book. And it is one of the best ever titles.
