While this is the second book in The Best Mistake series, it can be read as a stand-alone. The author does a great job of fleshing out the characters and subtly rehashing their scenarios which were secondary in the previous installment.

Brynn is a one hundred percent uptight, by the book kind of women. She’s very left brained and has her check lists of tasks to accomplish in life, love and everything else. She had dated Gray in the past because he fulfilled all of her required items but ultimately it didn’t work out. They were too much alike and there was no passion. Now as she getting older (really just early thirties), she’s disappointed in herself and the lack of achieving her personal agenda.

As Sophie’s best friend, Will has been a fixture in their family for years. While he seems laid back and laissez-faire, he’s actually a driven entrepreneur something Brynn has failed to notice. After one night with her in Only with You, he abruptly moves to the opposite side of the country and more specifically remove himself from her disposition and rejection. He’s been in love with her from the moment he first saw her and now takes the time to regroup and figure out the next move with the puzzle of winning Brynn’s affection.

Brynn is beyond stubborn and Will has dealt with that for years optimistic he’d eventually prevail but as time goes by and he continues to feel beaten down, he also starts to lose hope. Their journey is as much about overcoming their perceptions and history as it is about a future.

While reading Only with You, I knew at the time I was more interesting in Brynn’s story. I don’t know if it’s because she so Type A overload personified or if it was the immediate love/hate chemistry with Will. Either way I knew I wouldn’t miss it and I’m glad I didn’t because there was no disappointment. In fact I read most of this on a plane to Vegas and whether it was hormones or just the book itself I found at certain parts I had to imperceptibly wipe a tear or two; there’s no crying in flying.

This is one of those books where you feel along with the characters, and you find yourself sharing their tears. A life-long unrequired love disguised in bickering and dislike is so sweet when it's finally returned. And if I didn't already love this book, she would've had me with the BEST epilogue surprise.

3.5 Cotton Candy Stars

There are a few things that I require from my contemporary romances. There needs to be a few likable characters, some hot chemistry and I NEED that cutesy HEA. I got all three in Made for You. This is an easy to read romance that has you pulling for the uptight smart chick who has her entire life planned out but isn’t really living. Even though this is The Best Mistake #2 it can easily be read as a stand-alone since all pertinent information from The Best Mistake is rehashed.

Brynn was an awkward kid but she hit her stride lost some weight, got braces, changed schools and voila she left the remnants of unpopular childhood behind, but not the scars from it. To keep her life in check she has lists upon lists. She tracks what she eats to know how much to exercise to remain the same weight, she knows exactly what she is looking for in a potential husband and has already bought the house to start that future in. It just seems that the man she has picked out to be there with her had other plans.
…just know that everyone thinks you’re better off without him.”
“Everyone?” Brynn prompted with a knowing smile.
A beat of silence. “Well, okay, just me. Mom and Dad loved James. And Gray says he’s ‘upstanding,’ although if that’s not a condemnation, then I don’t know what is.”

Will on the other hand flies by the seat of his pants and even though he has had some success in business Brynn is the girl he always wanted but could never have. They have been Nemeses for years but Will has loved Brynn since High School and has finally formulated a plan to win her for good. Brynn might think she is taking a vacation from her very regimented life but Will has a plans to keep her.
“I told you I wanted a fling. I don’t know what more you want.”
“It’s easy after two glasses of wine, the thrill from a new look, and a fucking hot kiss.”
“It’s not easy when it’s you! We’re like Harry Potter and Voldemort. We’re nemeses.”
Will shook his head as he got off the freeway. “I’m talking sex and she’s talking Harry Potter.”
“I thought you’d appreciate it. You like black-magic movies and stuff.”
“I like horror movies, Brynn. Harry Potter does not qualify.”

The chemistry between Will and Brynn was great. I love stories where the very controlled, intelligent woman takes a break to try and branch out a little from a monotonous life and try new things. Even though Brynn was very OCD with her lifestyle and lists I found her easy to like and I totally rooted for Will to break through that icy façade and give Brynn what she needed instead of what she wanted.

Definitely a good cotton-candy curl up on the couch on a rainy day romance.

Trope: Enemies with sizzling hot UST

Chemistry: Off the charts Scorchio

POV: 3rd Person

One-Sentence Summary: Hot, Hot, HOT UST between two people who for appear to hate each other

Review: Will/Brynn were everything I wanted them to be and more! I loved that it was the guy who was in love and the girl oblivious and it was sweet torture seeing Brynn innocently go about destroying Will's heart. I loved both characters and they lit up the pages every time they were in the same room together.

Another fantastic read from one of my fave author discoveries of 2014!

Brynn pisses me off so much, and the whole time I just felt bad for Will.... But it deserves more than 2 stars because it made me cry.

2.5 stars. I kind of really didn't like Brynn/Will most of the time??? I know he would be mean to her at times because he had been in love with her forever and wanted to get a rise out of her, but like... he was being an asshole. I was also really annoyed that we got those Brynn/Will scenes in Only With You and then for some reason we had to ALSO flashback to them here? Like, put them in one book or the other; putting them in both is completely unnecessary. I tend not to be a fan of romances that switch to secondary character POVs to set up the next book in the series, but it's even worse if I have to have both that AND then read through the exact same scenes in the next book.

Giving it 3 stars because it's Lauren Layne...
...but this was a tough read.

I feel like the main characters slinged despicable insults towards each other, weren't in love in any measure that was palpable, and should have never ended up together.
