Skipper has a little sister named Mitzi, who likes to cause trouble, but doesn't stick around to watch him get in trouble. It reminded me of another of Stine’s books called ‘The Cuckoo Clock of Doom.’ In that one, the MC is Michael Webster, with a sister named Tara that likes to get him in trouble as well. Only she likes to watch the aftermath. Sort of a similarity. From what I remember, Mitzi, Skipper’s sister, didn’t make it into the TV episode.
A big difference is that in the television episode, the building was blue and green, I believe; in the book, it’s pink and green. Another big difference is quite a bit of this novella, actually. I’m pretty sure big pieces of the ending didn’t make it to the sets of the episode. This was one I was a little hesitant to read, but it was dramatic in a good way. It really worked for this one.
The only plot hole I really noticed (after re-reading it) causes me to hide this review because of the spoiler. If there is no Libby because it's really 'The Masked Mutant,' then I have a couple questions. Whose house did Skipper go into? Into whose bedroom did they enter? And whose collection of 'High School Harry & Beanhead' were they looking at?
Despite the plot hole, this is a really good novella and has some funny lines. </Spoiler> 4 stars.

Goosebumps. This is the series that kept me reading through my childhood. More than any other series, Goosebumps kept me interested in reading, and R.L. Stein is a wonderful children's writer. I applaud his efforts, and can't express enough my gratitude for the series.

Hauska kirja, mutta olisin kaivannut hiukan jotain lisää. Loppuratkaisu oli super!

I recently found this book again and wanted to pick it back up. I can’t even remember how old I was when I first read this. I honestly love Goosebumps books, but this one lacked in some critical details. Still a super fun easy read for kids, but not my style anymore. Eager to reread some more of these.

I actually really enjoyed this - it felt like a slightly different take on a Goosebumps book, and I didn't really have much idea where it was going. It definitely veered away from horror, but I enjoyed the intrigue!

Attack of the Mutant is another Goosebumps book that I very distinctly remember reading as a kid, primarily because it's so unlike most other Goosebumps books. The concept was fascinating to me. I didn't have much access to comic books, thanks to where I grew up in the UK, and so reading a story about a kid who collected comics and had a local comic book shop just sounded amazing. Essentially, this story is about a kid discovering that a comic book he collects is actually real, which he finds out when he stumbles across the supervillain's lair.
I vaguely recalled that the book seemed to mostly comprise of the main character, Skipper, exploring this lair - which is bright pink tower with a green dome. I wasn't sure if my memory was accurate there, but actually there is quite a lot of this book dedicated to Skipper wandering around hallways and getting into lifts. Which admittedly doesn't sound very exciting, but honestly I still had such a blast with this book. The humour in it just works so well - the running joke about Skipper's friend Wilson being obsessed with collecting rubber stamps and Skipper having zero time for such a hobby was a constant source of amusement. I also found myself smiling at Skipper's self-deprecating depictions of himself.
Admittedly the story goes a bit silly at the end, although this is a Goosebumps book so that is almost to be expected. Still, it's not a particularly spooky Goosebumps book as R.L. Stine leans more into the zany adventures of a comic book story. All things considered, I genuinely had a great time revisiting this book. It's bonkers but enjoyable.
