This was recommended to me by a friend. The title drew me in but as I started reading I felt disappointed. The plot became predictable and the twists lost their wow factor.

If you like horrible people making horrible decisions and living in horrible circumstances, this is the book for you! I quit reading it about 50 pages from the end. I just couldn’t take any more. The characters aren’t likable with the exceptions of Ross and Rupert, two secondary characters.

This book was fantastic. I picked it up because it was on sale, but then I couldn’t put it down! There was a twist on every page, and I felt as if I knew each one of the characters, truly understanding the dynamics. Lily, Carla, Ed. Wow. Wow. Wow. I didn’t love any of the characters, but they made the book perfect.

Definitely engaging, with a decent pace. Some parts lagged a bit. The end was a little unbelievable, but overall it was a good read. I looked forward to reading it each night.

I brought this one with me during my vacation, and it turned out to be a great choice for an 8-hour car ride – I didn't want to put it down. I wasn't sure what to think when reading the summary, but it was surprisingly good. I'd say it was more of a low-key thriller. It almost sneaks up on you. It's not so obviously intense where you sense a plot twist coming. It's more subtle and seems to come out of nowhere, which is almost more disturbing.

Probably the lowest rating I've ever given a book that I actually finished. I kept wanting to just put it down, but kept hoping something would happen to redeem it. I disliked all of the characters, there was not one who spoke to me. They were all mean, self-centered, damaged individuals. There was literally no redemption for anyone on any level. The writing was often trite with no depth to thought or characterization I could find. I would have given it less stars, except for the fact that, despite my dislike of the book, I read the whole thing. There's got to be something to that, though I have yet to figure it out. The sections of the book that dealt with children with Asperger's Syndrome and their issues was perhaps the only redeeming part of the book, also allowing two stars. So much so, that I sensed the author had some personal experiences with this illness in her life.

I was hooked after part 1 of this book, the story was engaging and the characters seemed well developed and easy to immerse yourself in, particularly Carla. The second part ramped up the drama at an alarming rate and at times I felt that the plot got a little too out there. In the end I didn't like or relate to any of the characters and I found myself just wanting it to be over. It felt as though Corry tried to tie all of the sub plots up in a neat little bow, which ended up dragging the book out. Overall, it was an entertaining if slightly overdrawn read.

This was one of those books where you are halfway through reading it, or in this case listening to it, and you still have no idea what the plot is. I stuck with it to the end just because I was already so invested and it still would be hard to describe to someone. The premise was interesting but none of the characters were likable and the story was just way too long -- 13.5 hours of listening time to be exact.

3.75 stars. I was interested in the story until the flash forward 12 years and the story just got a bit weird. Overall enjoyed it.
