Oh. Em. Gee!! What a ride! I love the mix of serial killer, murder, love and angst. Rowan is too horny all them time, to be honest, but his protective nature is just great. I feel like more background on each of the character would've been great, like more on how they find and choose their next kill (though I know Lachlan chooses their game pray). I think this would have helped us understand them more in terms of their relationship with killing, trauma and death. We get snippets here and there, and it may be cause Brynne Weaver wanted the romance to be more of the forefront, I don't know. Since the next book focuses on related characters, I hope we get more of Sloane and Lark's story and The Cane brothers' story.

Love the intricate ways that each kill are not the same but there is meaning how they are killed and displayed.

Fast-paced. Dark humor. A deadly competition between two vigilante serial killers who fall in love. I simply couldn't help myself. And I am incredibly glad that I did! Even though I'm definitely scarred for life (seriously, read the content warnings before...Weaver isn't messing around).
This book made me laugh-out-loud probably more than I would care to admit. I loved Rowan's quick wit (and the fact that he's obsessed with Blackbird from day one), and sweet -- scoop-your-eyeballs-out -- Sloane. This is truly a tale of unconditional love, albeit insanely grotesque circumstances. It's a riot!

This was something else.

The descriptions used for the serial killer bits were hard to read at times.

The spicy scenes were verrrry spicy. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I think there was a good balance of killer, spice, and normalcy.

Butcher & Blackbird is the first book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy.  The longest list of content warnings I have ever seen made me question my sanity for wanting to still read this book, especially since "accidental cannibalism" had me intrigued.  Brynne Weaver did a good job at making that lighter, easier to get through, and with humor though.

Rowan Kane and Sloane Sutherland are serial killers that hunt other serial killers.  Their banter is dark but hilarious.  I never thought I would laugh so much while reading about two serial killers and their competition.  Rowan knows exactly how to get to Sloane, but she gives it right back to him.  If this were a "normal" relationship, there would be so many red flags, but they fit perfectly.  It is the spark of light in their dark world.

There is a lot of gore, so this book isn't for the fainthearted.  The content warnings on the author's website and at the beginning of the book looks overwhelming, but I think a lot of it was done in a way that made it easier to read.

Overall, Butcher & Blackbird is a deliciously dark rom-com and I can't wait to read the second book about Rowan's brother, Lachlan.

“I didn’t gouge them out, Butcher. I plucked them. Delicately.”

“Boobs plus murder don’t equal a relationship.”

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the slow burn and chemistry between the main characters. Their relationship was so good and well written.

The plot was great and the book combined romance and murder in a nice and unique way. There were some heavy and dark moments but also some really funny moments that made me laugh out loud.

Please read the trigger warnings before reading. Personally I was a bit worried about the cannibalism/accidental cannibalism, but those scenes were mostly funny.

Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

When two serial killers who kill evil people meet and fall in love, things get...messy.
Well, thank f*ck for the content warnings at the beginning, though to be honest, they partly got me to read this book as I was intrigued. This was my first dark romance, and it was a ride! I liked this book's mix of funny and disturbing, which probably says something about me.
The writing was a bit too descriptive at certain points for my ability to visualize things vividly, so be warned if you can also create very vivid pictures in your mind while you listen!
Overall it was enjoyable if a bit graphic and I mostly liked the main characters! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

 Narrator Rating- 5 stars
Both narrators did an excellent job! You could tell they put production money into the audiobook!

Y'all I never thought that I would ever say I was head over heels in love with a serial killer and crying over a rom-com about serial killers, but here we are.

I have always loved the vigilante trope, but this book reminded me just how much I love it. I love the way Brynne wrote these characters. Demented and twisted, but still very human and very loveable. I could not get enough of Rowan and Sloane and I'm so sad this book is over.

If you're considering reading this book, just do it. You will thank me later. Between the banter and the mystery (and the smut, let's be real with ourselves here), you will not want to put this book down.

(This book would've been a five star for me if there hadn't been that slight third-act breakup moment, but I'll forgive you this one time, Brynne)
