No Place Like Home has so many moving parts, yet most of the story centers on one person. A 40 year old woman chooses to move from New York to her hometown of Pueblo when her Aunt leaves her a farm and 100 acres. Her best friend is dying from AIDS, her husband has committed suicide, her teen son seems out of control, and her parents are still judging her for the mistakes sh made as a 17 year old.
Warning: A good amount of open-door romance; body insecurities.

Jewel Sabatino left the Italian community she was raised in and never looked back. Disowned by her father, she followed her heart and had a good life. It was not without some heartbreak, though, and eventually, she inherits her aunt’s house at just the right time. Her best friend Michael is dying and she needs a place for his final days. She returns to Colorado and her family, who (with the exception of her father) welcome her with open arms.
Her son is ready to take on the world, but Jewel isn’t ready to let him go. Michael’s brother Malachi arrives to spend his last days together. Jewel is drawn to Malachi in ways she never imagined. As time passes, they become friends and lovers. But Malachi is a rolling stone and she knows he won’t stick around after Michael passes.
Through the heartbreak of loss, new love is found. Old hurts are forgiven and in the end Jewel… well, I’m not going to reveal the end. But make sure you have a hankie handy because the ending is a tearjerker! I LOVED this book, and I know you will, too. This author uses words like a palate and paints a world you can almost taste and feel. She will tug your heartstrings. Do yourself a favor and read every book she writes.

Easy read, taking you along the complex emotional journey of a woman moving home after two decades with her adolescent son and her dying friend.

Not my favorite Barbara O'Neal by a mile - I found it very hard to swallow the circumstances that still found the MC estranged from her father and the commentary on the life of the sister about to be married and it made me not want to read the book - but in the end, it was still readable.

Oh my gosh! I know this book is 20 years old, but it still reads so fresh! I absolutely LOVED Jewel, I was rooting for her the entire time. The relationship she has with Michael is a friendship everyone dreams of. I’m soo grateful she made up with her husband. I haven’t cried during a book in a long time, make sure you have tissues ready!

I've read several books by Barbara O'Neal and loved them all, so I was very excited to read this updated version of No Place Like Home with writers edits. The story is beautiful and I could connect with Jewel and her relationships with her family, Michael, and Malachi. The underlying story of Jewels relationship with her father was an added layer that I wish we could have gotten more of.
It started off a bit slow for me and I almost put it down twice. I stuck with it the second half was wonderful. Honestly, not one of my favorite books from Barbara O'Neal, but a good read. This is why I'm giving it 3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
