This was a little trite - the ending was hard to believe. A quick read. Girls' mother is killed; father is severly injured and uncle is killed or is he? Control of money is the theme.

I liked this one...though I can't say it was overly exciting, or even surprising. I had pretty much figured it all out, including the "twist" about a 1/3 of the way in. Unusual for Ms Higgins Clark as she usually leaves one twist just for the end. The characters here felt flat, the idea of "antique reproductions" was a little flimsy to me and not all that exciting. Gus bought his daughter a fancy house and set up an account to make sure it was paid for and NO ONE knew where he got the money? Dad has a twin brother, but because they were born on 12/31 and 1/1 they were never treated like twins to avoid a curse? Just too many odd pieces that sort of forced the mystery.

It was a nice easy read. I always enjoy her books but this is not one I will be going back to again.

I actually like this book, in some parts I thought it was drawn out but I loved the plot twist at the end … worth a read!!

I used to be a huge MHC fan. Hers were some of the first adult books I read way back when I was around 12 yrs old. I haven't kept up entirely with her recent work, but I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The book felt very choppy--short chapters, too much repetition, clunky dialogue, and too many coincidences. Any time a character has to quote Byron about truth being stranger than fiction (in a work of fiction) it should be a sign that you've taken things too far into the realm of strange coincidence. I think from here out, I may have to pass on MHC's future offerings.

I like to get fluffy audio books to listen to on my commute, but this book was completely terrible. I would almost give it two stars because I did find that I needed to finish it for I don't know what reason. This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I read and from the other reviews, I can see now that this was a mistake. An even bigger mistake was that before I even tried an MHC book, I read a truly dreadful novel by her daughter, Carol. This book is extremely repetitive. It could easily be at least a third shorter if she hadn't repeated the same information 500 times as if the reader could not remember a fact for more than three pages. The characters were all really flat and you didn't care about any of them. There was not much personality. It also seemed unlikely to me that so many law enforcement and fire investigators would remember the case of a woman who went missing 28 years prior from Manhattan off the top of their heads. Like in a small town, maybe. But in Manhattan? I even knew how it was going to end as soon as one piece of information was mentioned. And then the ending was very rushed. All these dumb side stories and romances that you didn't care about were all wrapped up real quick in the epilogue. Since I have read a book by Carol Higgins Clark which was similarly awful, I'm wondering if she is actually writing her mother's books for her now.

Classic MHC who-done-it as we try to find out who set an explosion at the Connelly furniture factory that killed one person (a disgruntled former employee) and seriously injured the daughter of the owner. There are false accusations and leads, a possible suspect in a coma, mistaken identities, missing people, revenge, seeds of love and a catholic priest.

Meh.... Huge fan of MHC generally but this one just did not do it for me at all. Maybe because I listened to it and couldn't get into the groove but whatever reason.... This book was more a 2.5 for me. Character development was not there like I needed it to be, the plot and story were pretty weak throughout. Here was not one character I felt an attachment to. I could go on but bottom line... I expected more.

Fast read and good story. The writing was not great though but it did keep me interested.
