I saw this book in the bookstore and it was love at first sight. I have a weak spot for princes in general. I have an even weaker spot for cursed princes. I also really liked the idea that the heroine was a healer. We don't get to see those in books often and I was very excited to see how it worked out. So, when I was looking for a not too big book to read last week, I remembered I had gotten this one and started reading.

I finished this book a few days ago already and I still don't know exactly what I actually thought of it. I don't think it's a bad book per se. I just think it's not the kind of book I had wanted it to be. The biggest question is: is that a me problem or is it a book problem? I eventually think it's a little bit of both. I had wanted and expected something else. But, the book is also not the amazing book it could have been.

The main issue I have with the book is the lack of chemistry between our healer and the prince. It probably doesn't help that I myself have never been attracted to someone based on looks alone, but even after the end of the book it still feels like these characters barely know each other. They don't meet in the best of circumstances, there is not much time and room to really have in depth conversations and the prince is most of the time not really himself either.

I also think the plot felt a little thin, despite the fact that there is a lot going on and this first book is quite clearly the start of something bigger. They're traveling to a location to get rid of the curse of the prince. We encounter some other people, there's some politics and of course there is a betrayal at some point. I just was never hooked on anything. Not on the world, not on the characters and not on the plot.

I will give the second book a chance. I already bought it. But, it won't be very soon.

This book had me hooked from the start. The mystery. The betrayal. The love. The beast. Fantastic! I can't wait for book two!

Amigos, amigas, gente random...

My first from this author, so I didn't understand some of the references to prior series, but it was very readable regardless.

I was in the mood for a fantasy read, but admittedly quite nervous about the fact that the blurb mentioned ACOTAR...I've read a few other books that mentioned ACOTAR in the blurb and were just fully unoriginal rip-offs.

Anyway...this was tropey. I'm not entirely sure I liked the FMC...or any of the other characters. I wouldn't really call it enemies-to-lovers, either. The world-building was pretty weak, although I suppose that's better than overwhelming and confusing. The spice was meh but with some potential for more, I suppose, in the upcoming books. I do love a MMC who's ferally-obsessed with the FMC.

That said...four stars because I was engaged the whole time, and I'm tempted to roll right into the second book. Something about it being a pretty easy read for a fantasy book is appealing to me right now, at the end of the year!

I have never read a book so fast, I devoured it!
Beauty and The Beast retelling with Fae and a human girl, need I say more?!
Get ready for action, mystery and a little bit of spice!
Troupes include:
Slow burn
Forbidden love
Enemies to lovers
Forced proximity
I loved how Ingrid mixed modern times with magic and fae all in the same book, it was fantastically written!

Meh. I read this a few books ago...and it was so lack luster I genuinely can't recall the details. I'd categorize it as another Hallmark equivalent Romantasy. It does have a past paced plot.
