Okay. It's not Dickens at his best...and he didn't get to finish it...and maybe he did borrow a few things from Wilkie Collins. There are bits and pieces to love. Grewgious was wonderful. And the opening in an opium den? Only a master could pull that off.

Amazing!! It's a shame Dickens didn't try his hand at mystery novels till it was too late! Absolutely devastating to finish an unfinished book!

The last book written by Dickens left unfinished, the book is filled with lust jealousy joy controversy and drugs, being who murdered Edwin Drood? The book l leaves you to speculate who the killer was and makes you think hard because only half of the book was published, because Dickens died, leaving no instruction for the next installment in the novel. Perhaps for me the unknown and intensity of the novel and speculation to make up your own mind of who the killer is what makes it such a good read, and of course it’s Charles Dickens who has never disappointed me in reading of his novels.

Known more for the enduring speculation surrounding its now infamous lack of an ending than the actual story itself, The Mystery of Edwin Drood is classic Dickens through and through, weaving societal critique and wacky characters through an intriguing and tangled plot.
Be prepared to fall down the rabbit hole of modern speculation surrounding the ending the second you finish the last page. You have been warned.

I liked the setup, but it was disappointing to know that the ending would never be resolved. Enough here to whet the reader's interest though.

Of course being left with the doubt does not help to appreciate the novel, especially because, not knowing then at the end who would be the culprit (if there would be a culprit - and of what) one is led to look at all the characters with suspicion.
