“So…” I pressed, rolling up on an elbow so I could look down at him. “Is it an undead thing? Like, you can’t father children because your sperm isn’t viable?”
One eyelid peeled open, revealing a sliver of blue. “I’m a vampire,” he deadpanned. “Don’t you read books? I can’t come inside unless I’m invited.”

I am glad I wasn't expecting anything when I picked this up because I would have been so disappointed otherwise.

It's not that it is inherently bad, things didn't click. The heroine is odd, the hero is also odd, their oddness doesn't fit together. And not odd in a good way.

There might be a story in there somewhere. We'll see...

Interesting book, though it didn’t wholly engage me. It sets the tone for a new world with new rules, one where the demons and fae fought a war... and the demons lost. Zorah, who to this point in her life has believed she was a human with an autoimmune disease, finds herself thrust into the middle of political chess with uncertain players. Her only true ally? The very last vampire.

It is a nice start even though it's a little predictable and ends a little too abruptly for my liking. I like the characters and the plot so I'll be reading the next books!

I didn’t love it but I’ll be reading the rest for the cliffhangers and the smut factor.

Interesting

It was an interesting book, and in a good way, lol. I haven’t read one with this particular story line. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I am intrigued enough to want to read the next book!

Honestly, this one was a little boring. The first half being the worst. It did get a little better once Zorah's life starts falling apart, but not enough to make things exciting. Fortunately, it was a quick read. And I am hoping it only gets better from here.

Zorah has a hard life and nobody to help her. Her mother was murdered 20 years ago and her father wants nothing to do with her. She has health issues (when we started getting into the gluten free natural bullshit I was fearful this would be another author to shove that shit down my throat, but thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case) and money problems. She works hard for what she has though and even makes time to volunteer at a place that means a lot to her. Things start getting crazy when she finds a guy shot thru the chest in her shed. Imagine her surprise when he not only gets back up, but drinks her blood.

Rans seems like an interesting character so far even though we don't get a lot from him. I would have loved for this book to have been told between both points of view though to get more of what he's thinking. We already knew he was the last vampire, but it takes quite a while for Zorah to learn this. Rans is almost obsessed with finding out why he was the only one to survive and that's something I'm curious to learn as well. His first encounter with Zorah was not what he expected when he finds out she's not human. Which peeks his interest enough for him to want to learn more about her and how she has survived so long.

The day after Rans shows up at the place she works, Zorah's life starts falling apart. A customer comes in that makes her body scream "RUN AWAY" and who asks way too many personal questions. When he shows up at the place she volunteers at accusing her of embezzling millions (?) of dollars she flees. Only to find her house surrounded by police. With nobody else to turn to, she calls her dad. Considering he has never had a nice thing to say to her in all the time since her mother died, she is shocked to her core when he tries to help her get to him. So close to safety, Zorah is caught by the bad guy and knows what waits for her with him is probably worse than death. But in rides her savior on his motorcycle with his deadly sword.

From there, things do pick up a little bit. Zorah doesn't understand at all what's going on and now has only this stranger to rely on. But for some reason she feels safe with him. She's also hoping he can get her the answers to her many questions. And while Rans might not have all the answers, he knows many people that just might.

We learn about a war that happened between the Fae and the Demons and a truce that was established after the destruction that happened. And we learn why so much attention has been placed on Zorah now and why the ones who tried to kidnap her called her an abomination. Zorah is having a hard believing all that she's told, especially about what she really is, but it all does make sense. She floundering and doesn't know what to do, but when her dad goes missing she's determined to find him. And find out if he is a victim...or if he set her up.

Interesting Vampire

The plot and storyline were good but a couple off times I wanted to shake the heroine and tell her to listen to the people who were trying to keep her alive. Then thought some more and understood why she felt she only had herself to rely on.

This was good. Decent world building and an interesting plot and characters. I knocked a star off for the huge cliff hanger despite the fact that the next book is out. Still a cliffhanger.

2 stars but in a distinctly worse way than some of the 1 stars I've read this year. This book sucked major throughout. I'll post more thoughts later, but... this book is as unsatisfying as it is stupid as it reeks lol. One thing I will say is that I like Len but too bad he's there for 1 chapter bc of plot reasons.

okay i've given it a few days (and half the second book LOL) to mull it over and... (buzzer sound) one star !! this book thoroughly sucks but i can also tell it was a thorough effort in making a quirky fun read. However. it was so slow paced and there was too much thinking much less doing (in a book that reads as if there should be a lot of action ??? there is action?? but it's so weird) and it was very one dimensional. Did it entertain me (or anger me?) enough to finish it? Yes. Even to start the second book? Yes, actually. But its cliffhanger ending once literally nothing had happened except a whole lot of worldbuilding in the first book? HUGEEEE ick. Augh idk i thought i had more to say after a few days but I will say one thing this book did right-- it kept me thinking about it.

I just didn’t enjoy it. I have problems with most vampire books because it’s either this emotionless jerk or all lust and no depth to the relationship. This fell into the 2nd one for me. Yes I understand what she is but geez it honestly put me off of this book. After the first sex scene I was done. No interest in the character and I really didn’t want to keep going with it.
