Don't be perturbed by the title! This book is a hoot. Wonderfully informative and filled with Kate's humourous voice, she takes readers through various unusual and important topics around the history of sex and sexuality.

Filled with brilliant and often graphic images, this book isn't for the faint of heart. It's a good introduction to different topics and easy to access for all readers. Buckle up if you want to know more about testicle transplants, history of the condom, the history of sex work and more! I thoroughly enjoy Kate's podcast Betwixt the Sheets: Sex, Scandal & Society, so I would recommend that as well if podcasts are your cup of tea.

really enjoyable book as well as so incredibly informative, the changes in attitudes over time are so interesting to me, and i also think that the book was very well paced, only complaint is that sometimes due to the citing, it felt a little clunky (just sometimes) but overall a really good and well written book

This was so good.

And interesting,
and funny,
and horrifying,
and thought provoking,
and just such a great book.

Highly recommend the audiobook as it's read by the author and between the passion you can hear in her voice throughout the book, the hilarious references to what sex has been referred to throughout history, and just the broad spectrum overview I cannot recommend this enough.

The ending, in particular, was an astute examination on the stigma of sex and how human's on a whole may not yet be willing to talk directly without hesitation about it, but the bias and stereotyping is no longer silently being accepted but instead called out and examined.

Really if you have even the most vague interest in the topic, I'd 100% recommend this book.

Hilarious and kinda sad at the same time! Very informative read about all things related to sex and all the myths and misconceptions that we’ve created around it throughout our history. Listened to it together with my husband and we had a good laugh about it :-)

Kate Lister is a knowledgeable and hilarious author and historian who is able to take the complex and lengthy history of sex and turn it into a book that is easy to understand for a wide array of readers. The book is broken down into distinct subtopics, such as sex and food or sex and money, to make the information more manageable without sacrificing many of the nuances that come with such topics. I recommend this novel to anyone interested; whether you are a history buff or a casual enjoyer of sex, you're sure to leave your reading nook with some new information and a few evenings of entertainment.
