Fourth in the Sabina Kane urban fantasy series revolving around a half-vampire, half-mage who suddenly finds herself very wanted. This story is based in New York City.

My Take
There is no lack of melodramatic action in this story, and with a turnover in leadership amongst the vamps, it just gets better?...worse?...I mean, WTF? There's a murder at Slade's club, therefore all the years he's done a great job in NYC suddenly mean nothing? I don't get this logic. Besides, I thought NYC was supposed to be independent of the official group of vampires? When did that change? And why would Slade agree to it?! Then putting Alexis in charge? Oh, no. I can't believe anyone would be that stupid!

Then there's Sabina's lame reasons not to tell Adam about her and Slade's one-night hook-up. The whiny drama about Gighul not wanting Sabina on his roller derby team. The whole routine with Michael mating Mac off. The big breakup. The assassinations. The convenient, sudden change of heart by Maeve. I dunno, I just get the feeling that Wells didn't really know what to do with this and just wanted to get this installment out or the way so she could start the last book in the series, Blue-Blooded Vamp, 5. That she simply did whatever to get it checked off her list. And the lame list just keeps growing with Gighul's letting the truth about Slade slip out. Talk about manufactured…

Oooh, fun, one of the bits of evidence is an S&M glove. Darn, all those sex shops Sabina, Adam, and Mr. Giggles will have to visit...

The Story
Everyone is recovering from events in Mage in Black, 2, but a fresh set of ritual murders sets them all back. It doesn't help that Tanith has her own ideas of who should be running things in New York. Maisie hasn't had a vision since her rescue. Sabina's magic lessons have suddenly propelled her into a whole new landscape---the Liminal, the borderlands between Earth and Irkalla. A terrifying one. And Michael is demanding that Mac marry the werewolf of his choice.

After the disastrous events in New Orleans in Mage in Black when Cain tried to start a war, the leaders of the dark races are determined to sign a treaty ensuring peace for all...best laid plans and all that.

The Characters
Sabina Kane is the High Priestess of the Blood Moon with the noble bloodlines of mages and vampires running through her, giving her Chthonic mage powers. She and Adam Lazarus, a mage with the Pythian Guard (think secret service plus special forces), have finally hooked up. Giguhl/Gigi, a.k.a., Mr. Giggles when he shifts into a cat, Sabina's Mischief demon, is anxious about his new relationship with a cross-dressing fairy, Brooks/Pussy Willow, who has moved to New York City in an attempt to escape his memories. Rhea Lazarus is Adam's aunt and in charge of the priestesses. Maisie Graecus is Sabina's identical twin sister, the Order's Oracle, High Priestess of the Chaste Moon, and struggling to overcome her horrific experiences in New Orleans in Mage in Black.

Tanith Severinus is the new Despina of the vampires; Persephone is still part of the council, but with a lot less power. Alexis Vega is one bitch of a vampire and a former Enforcer before being promoted to Tanith's personal guard.

Orpheus is the leader of the Hekate Council and commander-in-chief of the guards. He's also a father figure and mentor to Adam. Maeve is a nasty Queen of the Fairies. Master Mahan, the leader of the now-deceased Caste of Nod, is actually Cain, the father of vampires. Abel is a mage determined to imprison Cain. Tristan is a mage and Sabina's father; he died before she and Maisie were born. Phoebe is the vampire mother who died giving birth to the girls.

Slade "The Shade" Corbin is a vampire "mob boss" and runs all the vampires in New York City from his bar, Vein. He once did Sabina wrong, but she was still attracted to him. Michael Romulus is the alpha of the Central Park pack, the Lone Wolves, and Mac's uncle. Mackenzie "Mac" Romulus runs a bar, Lagniappe, in New Orleans with her vampire lover, Georgia Rousseau. Logan Remus is the werewolf Michael insists Mac mate.

Erron Zorn, the lead singer, and Ziggy, the deaf mage drummer, are both Recreants (banished mages) and members of the shock rock band, Necrospank. They're playing in New York City as the last stop on their tour. Goldie Schwartz is their full-time hairdresser, a "fun-sized midget", and she's one horny gimp equestrienne. Erron's got some important info on Cain for Sabina.

Madam Zenobia "Zen" is a voodoo practitioner in New Orleans and a friend of Rhea's. Brook worked for her before he split for NYC.

Crack me up, Mistress Bianca, a vampinatrix, has some great information for the team. Tiny Malone runs a strip club and is definitely not a friend of Slade's or Sabina's. Alexis kills him before he can confess; makes ya wonder what she's trying to conceal. Aesclepius is the god of medicine and healing.

On the Jersey Devils roller derby team, Merry Machete is a vampire and Ima Cutchoo is a mage and their jammer. Gighul is coaching the Manhattan Marauders roller derby team, which enjoys Stankerbell as their nymph jammer and, finally, Sabina who is known as Betty Bloodshed.

Lilith is the goddess of the dark races while Hekate is the goddess of mages.

The Cover
The cover is black-and-white highlighted by the streaky red of Sabina's hair. Sabina herself is crouched on the edge of a skyscraper, holding a gun, and ready for action with New York and the Empire State Building in the background.

I'm guessing the title is simply supposed to be cute as I can't figure out who the Silver-Tongued Devil is. I suppose it could apply to Cain as easily as he seems to force his will on everyone...

Sabrina has sister issues. Her sister tried to kill her boyfriend, which makes family time uncomfortable to say the least. She wants to fix her broken sister, to have the love she has always dreamed of, and it shows. Her desperation in this book seems endless. Her sister is not dreaming, being the oracle it is required on more than one level. The Dark Races are on the verge of signing a peace treaty and her vision could make or break it. But, can anyone bring her back to who she was?
The relationship between Sabrina and Adam has some rough ugly spots. It stems from lies and hidden truths. There is a touch of a triangle going on and I was voting for the other team. Adam disappointed me with his harsh views.
Giguhl was a hero and a friend. He stood by Pussy Willow and Sabrina throughout all the troubles, and their were many, He also found a new hobby roller derby, supernatural style. This didn't really work well in the story for me. It slowed the story down and was not very interesting. Ah, but Mr. Giggles is the hero of this story in my humble opinion. Just wait for the ending.
I enjoyed the story, but struggled through the first half. It just meandered through her daily life and did not hold my attention well. The next book is the end of the series and might be the reason for the slow down, it's ending. It does finish with a bit of a cliffhanger. I am excited to read the next book and finish this series .

Going to see when next book is due out, as I NEED AND WAAANT it! Wonderful.

Three months after Green-Eyed Demon ends, things are good, bad, and okay... Sabina is drawn to a crime scene by the smell of fresh blood, only because she'd been drinking bagged blood for months now. But as she's there she hears the coroner wonder of the lack of blood at the scene and obvious attack point. Sabina suspects a new vampire, an inexperienced one at that, is now killing in Slades territory. Then a second murder, at the Vein, pulls Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl into working on the case that Sabina doesn't want to be on. Which all needs to be solved ASAP with as the treaty amoung the three races; Vampires, Mages, and Fey, is coming close to signing. Maise appears to be getting better, on the surface, but no prolific dreams, but things are going wonderfully with Adam...or are they?

If you haven't read the first three books, I guess you could start with this one. The main arc of the first three books has pretty much closed, and the threads still open are briefly explained, and carried on from here. But I would definitely start at the beginning, so you see what all has transpired with Cain previously, and appreciate the growth and changes in the characters.

Sabina has turned over a new leaf, and is really trying to be a part of the group now, a team player. She still has her moments where she rather flight than talk with her friends and ask for help. But she has come a loooong way from Red-Headed Stepchild. Sabina seems to need her friends around now and likes having them. And even though she has a quick tongue with Giguhl she still wants him happy.

Giguhl has gone from Demon Fight Club to Roller Derby. lol! That is just fun, and the names. Oh my. lol. Giguhl and Sabina come back as a team again here. There are a few touching moments where they talk, and then are the old team again.

We have many names from the last three books popping up here; Pussy Willow, Mac, Georgia, Errol, and others. It's really great to see them all come together here. But of course, you know they can't stay that way.... so what pulls them apart? What happens in their lives? You just have to read it. Oh, we have full out action here, and some tragic losses. But I'm not telling you who.

Sabina is thought to be crazy for thinking Cain is still after her... And the Vampires have a new "Leader" who still doesn't care for Sabina, which might make certain actions difficult for Sabina.

I enjoy reading the books of Sabina. There is always great action, and so much fun for me. I enjoy laughing and worrying about the characters. Then reading the fights as well. This one in no way disappointed. It lived up to the other books in the series, even with Sabina growing as a character. This one did have the middle child feel, only in the fact that it left me WANTING the final book ASAP. lol.

Well done. I'm awaiting the fifth and final book of Sabina, Blue-Blooded Vamp.

Wow. Just when I thought things couldn't get more intense... THIS happens. What a ride. Even more action and mystery and danger, not to mention an ending I didn't see coming. My only complaint was Adam and Sabina not being able to pull their heads out of their asses when it mattered. Still, really really liked how this story went and am super excited for the final book. Though again, that ending was a shock and I am not really happy about it. But hopefully it will be redeemed in the end!

Unfortunately you need to read this book in order to follow the story to book 5, but it really doesn't do much except highlight the fact that Sabina Kane doesn't know how to listen and was never introduced to the concept of comment sense. Despite the fact that she's over 50 (?) she pretty much acted like a 15 year old the entire book.

Moving on to the next and (I believe) final book in the series.

This is the fourth book in the Sabina Kanes series. I think it's been a really strong series from the beginning and the books retain that consistency throughout. Jaye Wells does a wonderful job making each story fast-paced. I didn't want to stop reading.

This book starts out a few months after the end events in [b:Green-Eyed Demon|8850140|Green-Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane, #3)|Jaye Wells|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327939649s/8850140.jpg|10617568]. Everyone is still dealing with the life changing events. Sabina has been living life on the right side. She hasn't killed or taken blood from a human in all that time and she's continued to work on her magic. Maisie is probably the worse for wear after what she went through being imprisoned by Lavinia. Because of that she closes herself off and it 's difficult for Sabina to interact with Maisie. Along with that the Dark Races are trying to make peace and there's two mysterious murders that pop up. Of course everyone thinks the murders are an attempt to thwart the peace signings.

This book really shows Sabina's growth as a character. Of course, we still see the at times slightly irrational side of her that would rather fight. Here is this book we see more calculating, more thought put into her words and actions. If you go back to the opening scene in [b:Red-Headed Stepchild|6056520|Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane, #1)|Jaye Wells|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1301510609s/6056520.jpg|4704444] with her and David where she just is about the job and asks no questions, to this book where she would rather get answers by talking it out before having to resort to violence. That's a lot of growth. Of course with being in a more "mellow" mood (I guess we can call it that) she starts feeling lost and I don't realy think we see a resolution for those feelings in this book. She becomes more accepting I think, but we'll have to wait for book 5 to see a true resolution I think.

Her relationship with Adam is strong, but like any relationship they have their ups and downs. I like the way Jaye Wells has written their relationship. They have to fight to be together because not only are they always in some kind of danger, but as of right now they are technically a mixed race couple, even with her mage blood the covenant doesn't allow it. That's why Sabina and Maisie's parents' relationship was so scandalous. Even though they go through the rough patches I like that they are still fighting for it and don't just give up. What would be the whole point?

The end of the book leads right away into the next book [b:Blue-Blooded Vamp|12305703|Blue-Blooded Vamp|Jaye Wells|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1323326912s/12305703.jpg|17283004] which I believe will be out in June and is the last book in the series. Everything in book 4 was definitely a build up to the big show down. Until Then!

I like this series a lot when I started it but this book left me a little lukewarm. I enjoyed the storyline, but some of the dialog seemed a little casual and immature. It reminded me of PC and Kristin Cast House of Night series. In my world, grown people do not talk like that. (Lots of cussing, calling each other bitch, lots of cliches.) I did preorder the next one though...

If I did not like this series I would totally have said the book was meh, and now I wonder, I want to give it a good, but I am frustrated.... Still if I did not have book 5 I would have let it go. I would have wanted to read the next and last but not jumped at it. As it was I DID have book 5 so I DID jump at it. I just wanted to end the series and see what happens

Cos it struggled, nothing happened and it never built up to anything. The last book had the same issues, but there is suddenly got so good I could not put it down at the end. Here it just stagnated.

So please let the last book be awesome again, cos else I will be left hanging with the meh feeling and that does not bode well for wanting her new series.

Ok, and I am still disappointed.
