A worthy ending to a series that I loved so much as a kid. At times I felt like Brandon Mull was trying to cram too much into the story — i.e., the Eternals felt a bit random and unnecessary to me — but I overall loved the action as the opening of Zzyzx hurtled nearer. And while the themes never progressed much past basic black and white, good vs. evil, I thought the story had some great things to say about the consequences of choices and what’s worth fighting for. (Even if the morals were presented in some really on-the-nose ways at a few points.) I loved watching Kendra and Seth face their fears, show courage and resilience, and fight battles far bigger than themselves.
That said, Seth regressed a little in my mind during this book, making stupid mistakes that I thought he’d grown past by now. Still, I felt a lot of fondness for him, the same way I do for my little brothers — they make me shake my head and throw my hands up sometimes, but I can only love them at the end of it all. Kendra was still a pretty cardboard character, but her subtle romance with Bracken was sweet, if a bit cheesy at times. (And if I squint, I can overlook the whole unicorn thing.)
The story wrapped up satisfactorily while still leaving enough loose ends for the sequel series. I’m looking forward to continuing my exploration of Mull’s wonderful story world.

This is the kind of series you want to finish reading so bad but at the same time you wish it had more and more volumes. When I borrowed the first book from the library, I didn't even like it that much. But along the way, I happened to fall in love with Fablehaven. Now, as I finished the last book, it really feels like a farewell. Great book for children, but also beautiful adventure for adult readers.

I think this has to be my favourite book from this series. I love it with all my heart. The building up to the climax had me on the edge of my seat. Seeing Kendra and Seth prepare in different ways and places was a really cool dynamic. The suspense of the battle and the dangerous things Seth had to do to get Vasilis really built his character. I’m glad there was another glimpse of Patton as well. That battle was extraordinary! The suspense and action, the revelations, all of it was amazing!

Just finished this book a few days ago and it was great! I loved every second of it and wish there was more!
