This is a sweet book. I think I fell into the trap of watching the movie first and then reading the movie because I like the movie more. This is still a good read though and I like how it’s focused on Helen finding herself again through the wilderness along with facing traumas from her past. I also like her relationship with Jake, who has always felt something for her.
It was kind of weird though how they established that romance earlier on and then just pretended now to know each other because they almost kissed.
I would have liked to have known the other characters more instead of the few that stood out from the big group. Other than that, if you love Katherine Center’s books, you’ll enjoy this.

I read and really enjoyed another book by this author (the Bodyguard) so I was expecting a good romance, but I’m not even sure that this book qualifies as a romance.

There are so many things that made me uneasy throughout this book, and I might have quit except I was reading it for a book club. It ended stronger than it began, so I guess it turned out ok.

Some things I’m not a fan of:

-Main characters still in/just out of college
-Adults making stupid decisions and sticking with them rather than backtracking when that’s an option
-a love triangle (mmc kisses/dates another woman)
-immature people being put in positions of leadership/power
-death of a child (in the past but talked about in detail)
