Blossoms in Autumn is a heart warming, unique story that that tells the story of love at an old age. Mediterranea has become the oldest member of her family after the death of her mother. Ulysses is forced into retirement after his company “downsizes”. Both are dealing with the effects of society thinking they are too old. They find eachother and decided to spend their days being “old” together with a few surprises along the way.

This was a kind of weird story for me. It follows two characters who find love later in their life which is fine but I didn’t love the direction that it decided to go in. I clearly don’t know anywhere near enough about human biology because I was baffled when the FMC discovered that she was pregnant despite being in her 60s. I guess I knew technically it was possible but it just felt like a really weird decision for that to be the way their HEA looked.

Perhaps I am just a bit prudish or ageist but I also didn’t love that we saw (this was a graphic novel after all) these characters having sex on-page. It was tastefully done but it just took me by surprise and I didn’t love it.

Very sweet book about love in later years. Though the ending was super implausible and that took away from the story. Loved the artwork too. Given a review copy by NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

When I found Zidrou's "Blossoms in Autumn" on the new release shelf at the library, I decided to give it is a shot since I have been meaning to scan the new shelves as much as the older ones to stay relevant in the literary world. Instead I found a relevant case of becoming stupefied by most of the graphic novel's plot, and by proximity the characters and their outcome.

Everyone loves a love story that shows a couple overcoming odds together, especially when it is in their later years where often times we view those years to be the cruelest of our lives. While I do feel for the victories and defeats of Mediterranea and Ulysses, I also find the couple's outcome to be completely out of left field and utterly outlandish. This is not because of their discovery, but because everything regarding the discovery (as much as their courtship) seemed so quick and flung into your lap without warning.

If I take anything away from this GN it is not to give up on the hopes and dreams you might feel will always be denied from you. The choices you make, the experiences you go through, they all lead somewhere that will feel like peace. Some wait longer than others, but the wait is always worth it.
