O'Hurley born

Abby O'Hurley was married young to a famous race car driver who died in an accident. Dylan is an investigative reporter who is researching her to write a story on her dead husband. She is now living in the country (in a house her hubby left her, mysteriously) and raising her 2 sons alone. Very unpretentious and not at all what the cynical Dylan expected her to be. Their relationship is at first rocky, but they both begin to soften to one another and eventually fall in love. I loved how Dylan developed a relationship with her boys and how he learned to loosen up with Abby.

I read this series years ago and loved it, but I couldn't remember much about this book.

It's a sweet story and cute, and I really love the kiddo's relationship with their mom Abby. But I find the romance between Abby and Dyland lacks NR's normal romantic connection. Still, it was a cute book.

it was an ugly, hard and unpleasant book. i didn’t like mmc. he was supposed to be a former investigative reporter but he went into the assignment of writing a book blind, trusting only gossip and tabloids. don’t reporters have to be objective?

mmc’s stand on women:

“Women were, after all, born with guile. They were fashioned to masquerade as helpless, vulnerable creatures. Until they had their hooks in you. To shake free, you had to bleed a little. Then if you were smart, you took a hard look at the scars from time to time to remind yourself how life really worked.”

In between reading new books and releases, I try and go back to some older books I have missed by my favorite authors. I enjoyed The Last Honest Woman by Nora Roberts as listened via audio and the narrator Marie Caliendo was easy to listen to. As always Nora keeps you engaged.

Abigail is living on a farm raising her two sons the best way she can and holds on to her pride. She needs the money so signs a contract with a writer and journalist Dylan to write the story of her ex-husband (a famous race car driver who is deceased). The writer thinks she is this rich woman and cannot image why she is living on this farm doing manual labor and cleaning houses on the side and mucking stalls.

No one realizes but her family, she has no money and was left nothing. Along the way, the two learn lessons from one another! A light read with some chick lit and romance with second chances!

What I loved most about this book were the characters. Both Abby and Dylan are vibrant and alive, and the boys are as real as any fictional characters can be. The plot line moved smoothly enough, and was filled with enough melodrama to keep me interested and entertained. I look forward to reading the remaining books in this series!
