I Love Ellery Adams
I read a lot of books but Ellery Adams is one of the few authors I'll read without knowing what the book is about. This book was no exception. Her characters are so real they could be anyone we know. A great story. Great characters. All by a wonderful writer.

James had to move back home to help his dad after the loss of his mom. He also lost his professorship and his wife and has basically had to start all over again. Then he meets someone who invites him to a weight loss supper club. Then a murder happens and the whole gang pitches in to figure out what happened.
I’ve read some other books by Ellery Adams and really enjoyed them (see The Secret, Book, and Scone Society, and I read one of the Charmed Pie Shoppe series pre-blog), but this one just didn’t do it for me. I’m not sure if it was the weight loss thing (just not my thing…I’m pretty small, family history of anorexia…so am really cautious about diets/weight loss) or if it was just fairly boring writing. I just can’t put my finger on why I didn’t particularly like it. Maybe it’s because book 13 and 14 of the Wheel of Time series Nick has been reading/I’ve been rereading all year have really heated up and I really just wanted to finish that.
I have the 2nd book in the Secret, Book, and Scone society checked out so hopefully that one will be better and I’ll actually have time to read it and get a review up fairly soon! Stayed tuned for hopefully some better Ellery Adams.
I’ll go 5 of 10 for enjoyment and 4 of 5 for readability. Not a difficult read, just didn’t find it all that entertaining. I definitely will not be reading more of these, though.

I very much enjoyed every book of Ellery Adams' Secret, Book, and Scone Society series. I caught up with that series and decided to try this one next. The blatant fat shaming, and caricature-like characters and their obsession with food, turned me off the entire Supper Club Mysteries series. Moving on to the Books by the Bay series, in hopes that it will prove a better read.

Cute first mystery in the Supper Club series that features five friends who form a supper club in an effort to lose weight. The protagonist is a male which is unusual for the cozy mystery genre and a nice change of pace. James has moved home to take care of his father and is now the head librarian at the local library. One of the other club members works is an aspiring police officer who currently works with the department which is how the club gets their information when they decided to investigate the suspicious death of a local young man who was generally considered bad news. When suspicion falls on a lovely young woman they all know they compelled to help her. Typical small town activities and characters. The book focuses a lot on the groups dieting efforts in addition to the mystery, maybe a bit even on the dieting front. Oh! For fans of the her Book Retreat series, you'll get a chuckle out of the fact that there are two characters, young men named Francis and Scott Fitzgerald. She must really be a fan of Fitzgerald since she uses that as a name of one of the twin boys in the Book Retreat books.

Review:
This was my first time reading a Cozy Mystery by Jon Stanley and Ellery Adams Author so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i really loved and enjoyed this one very much.
The Characters were fun and enjoyable to read about. James was definately my favorite. He was so comical which i think is why i enjoyed this one so much.
The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in the book while reading, especially when the scenery was described.
Overall a Good Book 1 in this Cozy Mystery Series!! Can't wait to read Book 2 and more by JB and Ellery in the future!!
