3.25: unique idea and very slice of life but nothing too interesting

I found this an easy, lighthearted and hopeful read. A cozy and calming narrative with likable characters in a unique world. I found parts confusing at times but perhaps that was me trying to make too much sense of a world that didn’t need to make sense.

Loved it! Sweet, comforting, gentle, weird and whimsical, without being too high fantasy; a great book to read before bed. Definitely satisfies my craving for Japanese literature. Highly recommend, especially if you are the kind of person who thinks about your dreams a lot! I really enjoyed all of the thought that went into character development. Very clever writing.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the "no plot, just vibes"-ness of this one. The idea of buying a dream and paying with emotion, dream creators as celebrities, returning customers, eccentric characters - the whimsy of it all was so charming. What took it down quite a bit for me, was the writing. It felt very flat and stilted (this might be a translation thing, to be fair, but to this extent....). And especially given the whimsy of the story, a bit more flowy, poetic writing would have fitted this much better.
Still, super enjoyable!

I really enjoyed the world that was created in this book and the whole idea of purchasing dreams, but unfortunately that was the only part I enjoyed.
The characters had no depth to them, I didn't feel that any of them had a personality or any growth whatsoever. There wasn't one character I particularly liked or disliked, I felt indifferent about them all.
The stories behind the dreams also weren't developed enough for me to feel anything or care about the characters at all. Also I didn't feel much actually happened in the book, it wasn't for me at all.
I had high hopes after reading reviews but I definitely need more of a plot than this gave me.
