Just not for me, and too slow paced. I might finish it at some other point

I wish that the author built to the department store and the world more. There's a review on the dust jacket by Alex Howard, who said "Miye Lee smuggles in the big issues, too: the divide between rich and poor, the unrequited yearnings of the soul, and the aching pain of loss and bereavement." Lee touches the first two topics very specifically, however, maybe it's because of what I'm dealing with right now, but the ending chapter of bereavement was sweet, and so was the dream of Leo, the old dog.

Also, it felt too short. It ends so abruptly. I wish there was more to this story.

It was a sweet book but i did not connect to the writing style and felt very simple and less whimsical than I thought it would be.

I liked the book over all. The dream world was fascinating and magical. It would be a larger than life setting for a movie or TV show. The translator did a great job.

Where it lost stars for me was feeling like it ended abruptly. I was reading along, flipped the page, and was surprised to find it blank. Apparently the book was over (minus two epilogues).  I would have enjoyed more of a wrap up or fade out or something.

But overall a cute and cozy read.

Dreamland, but literal. This book follows Penny, the newest employee of the famed Dallergut Dream Department Store who serves as our guide to this plane of consciousness where we go when we fall asleep. We, animals (the dog story - THE DOG STORY) included, buy dreams carefully crafted by designers to explore other words, experience life in other people's shoes, revisit your favorite memories, see messages from deceased loved ones, and more! A series of 9 interconnected stories, the prose and visuals are lovingly rendered to confectionery perfection.

And here's a free tip for those working at Netflix - just get Wes Anderson to direct 10 episodes of this if he can bring himself to put together a diverse cast. You're welcome.
