Written in the style of The Night Before Christmas, this beautiful picture book tells the story of a family and community preparing for Pride. It will be the baby's first Pride, so big sibling is excited to tell the story of the first Pride.
I think that story is what makes this book special. Many Pride books I've seen are either too Non-Fiction Textbook-ish with names and dates and stats, or too current/storybook-ish with a lack of historical context. This book perfectly blends the two into a rhyming, colourful, easy-to-read book that tells both sides of the story in gentle rhythmic prose.

If I were still in the classroom, I would read this! Great lesson opener or anticipatory set to a unit on Pride (as well as a conversation about the Stonewall Uprising, other historical moments mentioned in the book).

Lovely illustrations. A good attempt to follow the rhythm of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, though sometimes the rhythm was off. But overall, a wonderful picture book.

T’was the Night Before Pride is a wonderful audiobook to open the discussion about pride with children. It provided a great starting point to talk to my kids and we were able to elaborate from there.
The narration is really well done and easy to listen to. I don’t know if I loved the underlying music, but with an audiobook this length, it wasn’t that big of a deal and added to the ambiance.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely loved this picture book. It perfectly described a brief history of Stonewall and the start of Pride, while weaving together why Pride marches are still important today. The illustrations were beautiful and theming the book around a family added a really sweet touch. This would be a fun read-aloud since it follows the rhyme scheme of "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
