Oh, how we love Baby Lincoln! I love how she stands up for herself in this book. I love the friendships she naturally fosters with new people and we loved the nod to Ulysses the squirrel. DiCamillo’s stories nod subtly to one another and I just can’t get enough of them!
My son and I read this together. We just really missed Mercy Watson in the boom.
This genre of Kate DiCamillo I don't like as well as tales such as Despereaux or Andrew Tulane's journey, but they are so very popular among children, I think because of their fun and silliness.
These are sweet stories that have a small lesson about kindness and acceptance, particularly of differences. Recommend

So meaningful--redemptive and hopeful. I love Kate DiCamillo's writing.. every word has purpose. Awesome privilege to read aloud to my own kids.
Baby Lincoln (that is her name -- or is it?) goes on a "Necessary Journey." Forever in the shadow of her well-meaning, but controlling, sister Eugenia, Baby Lincoln takes a trip by herself to assert her independence. She meets friends and eats jelly beans on a train. She takes control of her own identity and her life. We learn her real name! Sorry for this outburst but GODDAMN the things Kate DiCamillo can do with these characters in 96 pages is astonishing.
Another enjoyable children’s book by Kate DiCamillo. Quickly becoming big fans!
I *love* the message and idea of a “necessary journey.”

We love Lucille’s necessary journey, the results, and the cast of characters she meets along the way!
Lucille “Baby” Lincoln doesn’t usually speak her mind and just goes with what her sister Eugenia says most of the time. One day she unexpectedly decides to take a train trip that inspires her to write a story. A great story about finding your voice. This is a cute spinoff of the Mercy Watson series.
Probably my favorite of the Deckawoo Drive series. It’s so sweet to see Baby Lincoln finally get her moment and enjoy her necessary journey.
What is this magical power that Kate DiCamillo has to turn the most seemingly simple strand of words into something that just makes your heart glow? I don't understand, but I love it.
