This could be fun for a middle school boy to read, but I don't think older fans of the movie will love it. They're incomparable.

This audio book gets all the stars due to the AMAZING narration of David Tennant. For real ... he is phenomenal. He has good material to work with here. Cressida Cowell's story is delightful. There are hints of the cartoon movie version in this story, but there is a lot that is different. The differences don't hurt or help the book. It's just equally lovely, in my opinion. What does it mean to be strong? What does it mean to be brave? This wonderful story shows the power that can come from ordinary people when they just choose to find connections with others, even when that isn't the conventional way of doing things. I truly enjoyed this. Five stars.

This is charming a cute though a little younger than I usually like (I was thinking this would be Percy Jackson age, but it is aimed a couple of years younger), but it was still quite charming. Plenty of humor and helping of adventure and it is read by none other than the fabulous David Tennant so really, you can't go wrong.

Listened to the audiobook, narrated by DAVID TENNANT, it was a fantastic experience, completely different from the movie and extremely funny and interesting

Aw. This book was so much better than I thought it would be! Fun and entertaining, packed with all the dragons, silliness and adventure you could want. Now I’m not the readers demographic for this, I am a fully grown adult who just fancied reading a light hearted children’s book and it was exactly that for me.

It was one of those books that you don’t take to seriously but can just get absorbed into for a bit, and the next thing you know, you’ve become invested and you’re rooting for the main character (Hiccup). Before you know it, you’ve finished the book!

It was super easy to read and really would be perfect for any little reader. Although one thing to be aware of before going into this is that it’s nothing like the film whatsoever! They are completely different entities and none of what happens in the film features in the book. It has a whole different story (and one that I loved actually. Wouldn’t have minded the film following this pattern to be honest), so don’t go into this book thinking you know it because you’ve seen the film!

Now I’ve finished it, I totally want to read the rest of the series for a bit of nonsense dragon fighting Viking action.

No regrets,
Yours sincerely, an adult who couldn’t resist reading this children’s book.

Amazing! I have rarely loathed a book this much. A mess of narrative non sequiturs. A great example of an embarrassing deus ex machina. Throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. No humor, no heart, no sense of direction. I did wonder whether this would turn out to be an intentional, Pythonesque literary hoax and it would all resolve itself in a climax of... something?

I tried reading The Wizards of Once, had to give up after 100 pages because it was too painful. I thought this might be better. Yuck! Obviously this author is not my cup of sake.

Very different from the movies, but a good read! Audience is obviously boys of a certain age obsessed with gross things, it got a tad bit annoying, but overall I enjoyed reading this! Definitely a good story.
