For some reason I had a week where everyone kept talking about How to Train Your Dragon so I finally just gave in and re-read it. This is a book series that I remember very fondly from my childhood, and so I was pretty excited to read it again honestly. And, well, I forgot that despite it all it's a book series for kids - and that it had very humble beginnings. It's been a while since I've read this sort of book and I was surprised by just how shallow the plot line was (and the fact that there was only one plot line to follow). It is, unsurprisingly, also full of juvenile jokes that are mostly about how things are kind of like snot. I can hold the part of me that really enjoyed these books as a kid, and the part of me that knows that the plot lines become more intricate and clever a few books in separate from the part of me who found the experience of reading this book less enjoyable and more short. I think my re-read of these books stops here, and maybe I'll just go on the wiki to re-live some of the better plots.

Why reading fiction is valuable. A book silly enough to have characters named Snotwart and Fishlegs unfolds the dangers and traps of war, bigotry, and nationalism.

Oh my, this is super-good-fun.
David Tennant reads the audio, which is unbelievable in its theatrical hilarity.

Hilarious and well-done, with amazing illustrations! The movie varies greatly, but the source material contains everything you know and love from the film.
