A nice silly little read when I’ve been struggling to stay focus on any of my other current reads! Something I would have loved as a child, and the writing is great for children. Hopefully will get me out of the slump I’ve been having!

Update: I think I might have only listened to half of the story the last time. This second listen through was much more thorough.
Seemed short. The story was barely starting and then it was over. I wonder how this plays in to the rest of the series.

I read this series to my #1 son at bedtime. We found these books to be very entertaining. Clever stories, interesting characters, fun plot twists and a plucky, unlikely hero. Not very similar to the movie...better!!

Great ending to an entertaining series. Longer than it really needed to be but answered all the lingering questions and addressed the existence of dragons in a highly satisfying conclusion.

A fun adventure with some sarcasm and solid advice.

Boys loved this. Aaron read most of it to them, so I didn't hear much except what the boys had to say about it afterwards. It's nothing like the movie. But held their attention, and they begged for more every night at the end of each chapter.

The movie was about Vikings that killed dragons to protect their home island. It was a lot different than the book.
Boys at about 10-12 go into dragon nursery caves during hibernation season and steal a baby. They are then to train them much like a falcon to hunt and fight.
Toothless is a small common gardener, terrier sized, green and no teeth until his baby teeth begin to grow.
Dragon watching is a sissy activity that Hiccup enjoyed. You are an idiot if you can read. Talking to dragons is bad. They are to just yell, loudly.
If they fail at the initiation then they will be kicked out of their tribe.
