Not up to par compared to the other books written by Mr. King.

I really enjoyed this! I feel like this is such a classic and the horror genre and definitely inspired a lot of other books and movies. I will say I prefer the movie ending and also I think the movie is an amazing adaptation! I read this because I loved the film when I watched it probably 5 years ago now.

I will say it does have some old Stephen King things that I really don't like. Such as describing every single woman based on her body, the male character being like "oh crap something bad is happening, time to cheat on my wife," and some language issues.

But overall this was very enjoyable and the audiobook was fantastic!

Boooooring. And he still managed to sexualize every female character AND write a pointless sex scene into a 165 short story. No surprise to anyone there.

Damnit. I hate that I enjoyed this book so much. I normally stay clear of anything in the horror genre, but had to choose a title for a reading challenge and this one was recommended because it was short and not too terrifying. It was creepy, but not too much for my vivid imagination. I thought it was an interesting plot, although some of the characters annoyed me. But I suppose people act out when they are under stress or frightened, so maybe King accurately captured the human response. Something I enjoy about King’s writing is that he creates these terribly ordinary worlds that feel so real. I could picture these people and the creatures and felt like I was witness to it all. The ending of the book bothered me until I heard about the ending of the film. Then, I was happy to follow the narrator’s suggestion and come to my own assumption as to what happened.

This was my first Stephen King I’ve ever read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He’s an excellent writer who tells a story in such a simple and yet captivating way— it was fascinating.

For this story specifically, I was interested the whole time and even though the ending seemed anticlimactic, I actually liked it that way. It was an entertaining read.

I’m definitely ready to read another one of his many works!

I'll never say no to a Stephen King read that gives off Cthulhu vibes.
