I would have given two stars had he died, but alas!

I'm not sure if it's entirely fair to rate an unfinished piece but as it is, I found it OK. It's not in a style I normally enjoy so I don't think I would have found it any better had it been completed but I see its the appeal and I can't really say I didn't like it - it's just not my thing.

One thought springs to mind when it comes to the works of Oscar Wilde, "When he was good he was very good, but when he was bad he was horrid."

Just like every other author, Wilde was prone to start a story/play and not finish it for a variety of reasons. But those short unfinished stories served their place financially for Wilde because in a pinch he could sell them as unfinished works and let the buyers finish them as they saw fit. These fragmentory works were never as popular as the full piece Wildes wrote, but as seen in these two tragedies, they can still be somewhat entertaining, albeit incomplete and oft times confusing.

breaking news works of fiction can be taken at more than face value (i enjoyed this one)

It took me a couple of pages to get into both the story and the poetic style of the play, but in the end I found myself quite enjoying it. Even though it is technically a fragment, to me it seems much closer to complete than the small note at the bottom of the first page would indicate; as if there are only a few pages of dialogue missing in the middle where the break occurs. The ending, with its clever twist, was definitely not what I expected, and makes me really wish that Wilde had been able to finish the rest of the play.

Just so ridiculous and overly melodramatic!
If you were ever to read it, don't take it seriously.. just enjoy this messed up ride 😂
