This book definitely drew me in! The first 1/3 of the book was a bit slower, but then I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading 50% of the book in one sitting! The setting was extremely atmospheric, and Ware did a good job of keeping things tense all throughout the group’s efforts to survive. There were parts of the ending that felt a bit rushed and that I didn’t appreciate as much, but overall I had a really good time following our cast of characters along their survival journey!

I really enjoyed listening to the audio book. There was lots of action and plot lines to follow. The last 10% left me wanting a little more.

Ruth Ware books tend to be hit or miss for me. In this case, it was a miss. Ware has a very similar style with all of her books, which I like. Her books tend to have a lot of characters, and unreliable narrator, a “locked room”, and a murder to solve.

I liked the setting for this book. The characters were contestants on a reality TV show on a remote island. The premise of the show was similar to Love Island, but the reality TV aspect went away in its entirety when a storm hits and the cast is stranded on the island. Now, in some ways this makes sense. In other ways, I felt like the book completely changed direction to something I didn’t quite enjoy as much.

I also liked that there was a bit of foreshadowing, but nothing huge. The ending overall was somewhat obvious, which is typical for me in Ware’s books. I did think there were elements of it that brought the characters to life in a way that only an author can accomplish. I also loved the narrator and am really glad I listened to this on audio.

A reality tv show turned into island survival.
I was on edge after 40% in & could not put this book down.

This book was a bit different than Ruth Ware’s typical story. There was less mystery, more thriller and no child in danger.

• Single POV - snippets of diary/other perspectives
• Tropical island murder / survival

Read with audiobook & hardback.
Started with audiobook, but once it got intense I had to switch to reading. Only because I read faster. Still would recommend listening.

Rather repetitive and predictable, but I also kind of expected that somehow.
