This was a tough book to read. Such unlikeable characters, with the exception of Jolene. But, I give it 3 stars for the ending.

I would have loved the story to focus more on Fig and Mercy as it was set up in the opening. There was a shift from the “bad mommy” plot, and it never came back to it once the husband came into the picture. The voice seemed to change entirely. It was a shame. The way Fig struggled with her evolving and changing fixations was interesting.
There were a couple of things that were never shown on the page that kept being brought up like Fig’s husband George. I thought he was a figment of her imagination, but he was real and just never shown until the end. It was overall strange.
Anyway, I was entertained till the end. The ending was offensively underwhelming.

points off actually bc of a huge plot issue that was kinda annoying. end was underwhelming but it was overall pretty interesting in the first 2/3. it would have been 5 stars if it kept that momentum but the last 1/3 kinda killed it but i’m still glad i read and the last page did make up for it a little.

2.5/5. Weird inconsistencies in the narrative and all but 1 of the characters being unlikable really made this a painful read for me.

It’s a quick and short read, I’ll give it that. But everyone in my book club kept saying how crazy it was and it started off that way but then there was no twist or surprise ending or anything really. It just fell flat. Also, you go into it thinking it’s mainly because she’s obsessed with the child, mercy, as she lost her own baby. But really Fig is just obsessed with Jolene and her life? Mercy (the child) is mentioned here and there but it’s not really a focal point. Odd.

Meh .
I had a higher expectations for this one , I expected there's plot twist / something more darker also I was expecting a lot more creepiness in this book anyways I really liked how Tarryn brought us into the minds of sociopaths .

I really wanted to like this book. I loved the writing style & it captured my attention right away… but honeslty it just left me confused. There were some characters that were mentioned a few times, & then never again, but then randomly showed up at the end. Meh.

I'm surprised this has so many positive reviews. It was not great and I spent a good portion trying to figure out what the deal with George was.

“I Can Be A Better You" by Tarryn Fisher started as what I thought was a predictable story. However, around 75% into the book, it threw me an unexpected curve ball that shattered everything I thought I knew about the plot. This twist was brilliantly executed and took the narrative to a whole new level of excitement.
Listening to this book on Audible was a fantastic experience. The narrators did an exceptional job, vividly painting the picture and immersing me in the story. The characters came to life in a way that added depth to the already gripping tale.
Without giving away too much, I must say that the surprises in this book are worth the wait. If you enjoy stories that keep you guessing and then hit you with a twist that leaves your jaw on the floor, "I Can Be A Better You" is a must-read. Tarryn Fisher has woven a captivating tale of deception and intrigue that will keep you hooked until the very end.
