this is the first physical non graphic novel book that I’ve finished since ring shout (June 2022) which is like the first physical read in 7ish months

I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. I could honestly have read another five hundred pages of Chih and Sinh Loan telling the story of Scholar Dieu and Ho Thi Thao, and yet these 120 pages were just enough to make me fall in love alongside them.

I loved this novella! It reminded me so much of "One Thousand and One Nights". Despite not loving the first instalment in the Singing Hills cycle, I found this book to be very much clearer and its main characters more interesting — especially the tigers. Looking forward to reading the third book.
