Die Harpyie

A short and taught little book about a housewife who buries her feral side to allow her role as mother and wife to subsume her and be the sole source of her happiness. When husband invariably goes astray in their contract, her pain unearths trauma long buried, as she becomes more and more unhinged.

Gorgeous prose. Love these stories, where women maneuver to a place where they don’t allow societal norms and socialization to dictate every aspect of their identity. Some people didn’t like the ending, but I felt the shift was more clear than most imply. And completely against what some of the lower ratings seem to have inferred. It is subjective, to a point. It’s interesting that I didn’t extrapolate the ending some have. Makes me like it more, to be honest. Great edition to the unhinged women canon.

god this was so weird I don’t even want to rate it. The writing itself was gorgeous but the story....I dunno. it pushed some lines that I wasn’t comfortable with.

Thought this was gonna be a “Good For Her” book. It wasn’t.

The Harpy dives into a women’s mind when she finds out her husband is having an affair. Lucy having to take care of their two children while holding it together, has decided to deal with this affair the only way she feels is plausible, by hurting her husband three times. Each time gets a little worse for the husband, but somehow seems to “mend” their relationship, until one day she completely slips and becomes something she has always desired to be. A great read that shows exactly what any kind of grief or hurt can do to a human especially when the individual has been “forgotten” about for so long. Enjoyed the book and could not put it down.

The entire book was clearly leading up to that, but it switched gears too suddenly and didn't feel like it followed through very well. The writing was pretty at times, though.

I’d have given it more stars if not for the ending, which I didn’t care for. The entire last chapter was not a thing for me. Book is beautifully written tho, and premise very interesting.
